1) Calling all candidates for the OKNA Board

The Overlook Neighborhood Association will hold its annual board elections starting at the Sept. 15 general meeting. We’re looking for residents and other members willing to help lead Portland’s best neighborhood. If you’d like to run for the board, notify the chair at chair@overlookneighborhood.org by Saturday. Include your name and address (or other qualification for membership).

The time commitment for board members is two meetings most months and some committee work, depending on which committees you choose to participate on.

The membership will elect 12 board members. The top six vote-getters will receive two-year terms. The bottom six will need to run again in a year for a two-year term. (This is the transition to staggered two-year terms with half of the board seats up each year.)

The OKNA Board will decide the details of conducting the election during a pandemic at its meeting on Tuesday (see below).

2) OKNA Board meeting on Tuesday

The Overlook Neighborhood Association Board will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. The main item on the agenda is how to conduct board elections.

3) Labor Day concert at Overlook House

The Friends of The Historic Overlook House are excited to invite neighbors to the back lawn for a Labor Day concert featuring local band The Catnip Brothers. Join your neighbors for an evening of Bakersfield Honky Tonky and genre-hopping hi-jinx in the fabulous rose garden.

The concert will take place on Monday, Sept. 7, 4-6 p.m. at the Historic Overlook House (3839 Melrose Drive).

Please RSVP to attend.

Event capacity is limited to 50 people due to Gov. Kate Brown’s limitations on gatherings. Review all event guidelines posted on the Eventbrite page prior to confirming your attendance.

The Friends of The Overlook House is a 501(C)3 non-profit organization.

4) Portland Police Bureau seeks advisory committee volunteers

The Portland Police Bureau is recruiting community members for a new Police Bureau-wide Advisory Council. PBAC will serve as an advisory body to PPB and will provide input on budget development, community priorities, equity and inclusion initiatives, bureau projects, and City/Bureau issues.

Additional information about PBAC and the application form are available online.
