1) 2013 Overlook Yard Sale & Free Share (7/20-7/21)
It’s time for this year’s neighborhood-wide Yard Sale! Saturday, July 20th from 10-3 and the accompanying Free Share Sunday, July 21st. Folks looking for great deals should come out and see what their neighbors have to offer. A map showing the locations of all of these amazing sales is posted on Sustainable Overlook’s website: https://sites.google.com/site/overlooksustainability/yard-sale-2013
If you’ll have your own yard sale that day but didn’t sign up, no worries, there will be lots of people around so put your table out!
Finally, don’t forget about the Free Share on Sunday the 21st as well. Even if you didn’t participate in the Yard Sale, but have unwanted items to give away, please place them in your yard or near the curb with a FREE sign on them. At the end of the day any unclaimed items should be brought back inside or given away to Community Warehouse, Salvation Army or any other charitable cause.

2) Bike Helmet Deal – Legacy Bike Helmets – $6 (7/20)
Not just for kids! Did you know Legacy Health and Trauma Nurses Talk Tough offer bicycle and multi-sport helmets for just six dollars? They also fit and adjust helmets for toddler to adult sizes. Several Bicycle Helmet Sales events are coming up, including the Lloyd Center Summer Safety Fair at Lloyd Center Mall on Saturday, July 20 from 10am to 2pm. 3) Pesticide-Free Overlook: Bee Friendly! (all summer)
Sustainable Overlook would like to capitalize on the enthusiasm for the Pesticide Free Neighborhood initiative. If you have taken the Metro pesticide-free pledge and would like more of your neighbors to do so, please consider helping out by staffing an OKNA table at the Overlook Village Street Fair (7/27), North Portland Sunday Parkways (7/28), at the OKNA Neighborhood Picnic and Movie in the Park (9/1) or one of our other upcoming events. Folks are also out door knocking if that’s your sort of thing; let’s get together.

5) ADA anniversary celebration set (7/26)
The 23rd anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act will be celebrated at Portland’s City Hall on July 26 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. ADA Moving Forward is the event’s theme and it is being co-hosted by the Portland Commission on Disability and the Connecting Communities Coalition.
Live music will be provided by ILR Music Collective in the City Hall Courtyard, 1221 SW 4th Ave., along with invited speakers. Cake and refreshments are planned to be served inside City Hall in the first floor atrium area.

7) Nominate a Garden for the Sustainable Overlook Garden Tour
The 2nd annual Sustainable Overlook garden tour will be held Saturday, August 24th. The theme this year is Healthy Gardens and nominations are being accepted for pesticide-free gardens of all styles from neatly groomed to wild, artistic to purely functional, habitat to hang-out space. If you know of a garden you’d love to tour (or want to recommend your own!) email sustainable@ OverlookNeighborhood.org by July 31st.

8) Save Suzuki Violin at Beach School/Escuela Beach
We are trying to save an important music program in our North Portland K-8 public school. We are a proud and diverse school; over 58% of Beach students qualify for free or reduced lunch, an indicator of poverty. In addition, a significant number of students qualify for transitional housing services. The Portland Suzuki Project provides the students at Beach School critical access to music education and the joy of making music.
We hope you will support our violin program! The Beach Students are counting on us to make sure the Portland Suzuki Project remains at Beach next year and for years to come. Help us make this happen! The Portland Suzuki Project is a 501(c) 3 (non-profit) organization. All donations are tax deductible.
