Support Overlook neighbors and businesses during the COVID-19 crisis

Hello Overlook Neighbors. The ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak is challenging everyone. It is at times like this that the strong community goodwill present in Overlook can make a tremendous difference.

While we all must practice social distancing, deal with kids home from school and other challenges in the current environment, the truth is that this crisis is hitting some people harder than others. Workers at restaurants, bars and many other businesses have seen their hours cut or been laid off. Those establishments are in jeopardy, too, under a statewide order to only provide takeout and delivery service.

That’s where Overlook residents can help neighborhood businesses weather the current storm. The Overlook Neighborhood Association has compiled a list of eateries providing takeout or delivery service. (See below.) As you plan your meals while you shelter at home, consider ordering some takeout to support a restaurant. Neighborhood customers now could be the difference between an establishment surviving the current emergency or shutting permanently.

OKNA board members called around to all of the eateries in Overlook, and these were the ones we could confirm are providing takeout or delivery. Others might be. If your favorite isn’t on the list, give them a call.

If you know of a neighborhood restaurant that is doing takeout but is not on this list, please send a note to info@overlookneighborhood.org. We will add them on our website.

If we all help each other, we’ll make it through this. Remember to be neighborly. Check in on neighbors, especially those who are at heightened risk from coronavirus such as people older than 60 and those with pre-existing conditions. Offer to pick up some things at the grocery store or handle a small task around the house that needs doing. In other words, continue to do your part to keep Overlook the best neighborhood in Portland.
