1) Sustainable Overlook Pesticide Free Garden Tour (8/24)
The 2nd annual neighborhood garden tour will feature 8 gardens in a wide variety of styles. The theme of ‘Healthy Gardens’ is expressed in edible gardens, eco-lawns, outdoor living spaces, bee hives and beefriendly gardens and more. All the gardens featured are pesticide-free so it’s a great chance to explore some organic yards and learn natural gardening tips and be inspired.

2) Beach School All-Class Reunion (8/24)
Saturday, August 24 at 12:00pm
Join your fellow Bobcats in Overlook Park from noon to 9:00 pm. Bring old photos, a potluck dish, a favorite beverage and don’t forget some toys: Frisbee, croquet or horseshoes, basketball, baseball gear etc..
Come rain or shine, just bring friends and family and have a good time sharing old memories and making new ones.

3) Sustainable Overlook Planter Box Repair (8/25)
Calling all neighbors! This Sunday, 8/25 at 9am, we’ll tackle the repair of the big planters at the intersection of Concord and Overlook, and can use lots of help! Bring gloves, shovels and wheelbarrows. Let’s get dirty!

4) Sewer Project Construction – Work on Saturday
Safety is a priority: Please stay clear of all construction activities. Please keep your children from harm and instruct them to stay clear of all construction activities. We also appreciate your keeping pets and vehicles out of the construction areas.
Developments of note
-The contractor is scheduled to work this Saturday, August 24, on N Ainsworth (Interstate to Concord ) – main public sewer line and laterals to connect private properties to main public sewer line
-Street restoration around schools – contractor is working to complete restoration of streets immediately around schools before students report on September 4
-N Skidmore Court – concrete restoration finished this week; street should be fully open to traffic next week
-N Sumner Street – asphalt restoration where work was done to connect private properties to main public sewer line will occur as soon as possible after restoration of -N Overlook Terrace Alley and N Ainsworth Street is completed
-N Prescott Street – street restoration to be scheduled at a future date after engineering issues are resolved
-N Massachusetts Avenue – sidewalk restoration to be completed this week; yard restoration/top soil placement, manhole grouting and other miscellaneous items to be scheduled at a future date

5) The Tour de Lab & Street Closure (9/8)
The Tour de Lab bicycle ride – the annual Tour de Lab ride is an annual community bicycle ride and fundraising event benefiting Dove Lewis, Portland’s only 24 hour emergency care animal hospital. Tour de Lab will take place on September 8, 2013. This whimsical dog-themed community bike ride is wacky fun with a costume contest and dog-themed treats at all locations en route.

To assist in the safety of congregated bike riders at the start/finish and at the North Portland rest stop, there will be a closure of N. Concord St. between N. Willamette Blvd and N. Killingsworth St by the Killingsworth Lucky Lab Taproom from 9am-3pm, We will have amplified sound at controlledlevels for music and announcements.

6) Overlook Park Apartments UPDATE (Meeting 9/11)
The proposed apartment building that brought many neighbors out to our general meeting a year ago. . you know. . .the ones on Overlook Boulevard, backing up to Overlook Park? Well, the original architect has been replaced, and the new architect will present the NEW DESIGN at a special community meeting.

7) PSU and City of Portland TRANSPORTATION CLASS (register now)
This 10 week class is great for neighborhood activists and interested citizens. Learn about how you can make a difference even in these times of budget cuts and shrinking gas tax revenue. Speakers include policy and decision makers, planners, and engineers from TriMet, Metro, and PBOT. The class is facilitated by Rick Gustafson, transportation planning consultant and former Metro executive officer.
– Scholarships available!!
- Meets at PSU and several other sites.
- Use what you learn to influence transportation decisions in your neighborhood.

8) Save the Date: Overlook & the Portland Comp Plan (9/17)
Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the September OKNA general membership meeting on Tuesday, September 17 at 7pm. The Portland Comprehensive Plan is undergoing a mandatory update to the zoning and planning rules for the city. This means changes will be applied to our neighborhood and the Overlook Neighborhood Association has decided to submit a position paper to the city in advance of any final decisions. It is important for planners to know what residents want before they decide for us.
If you have an interest in the future of Overlook – how development is targeted, where new green spaces go, how transportation will be affected and much more – then you’ll want to participate in this discussion.
