The purpose of the session is to discuss and clarify information related to confined disposal facilities. The discussion will be based on questions that we’ve heard from the community. EPA will also provide general information on work being done at Portland Harbor.

4) Thank You from our Bridge Pedal Partners!
Bridge Pedal was a great success! Special thanks to the 20 folks from Bethel congregation and the Drop-In Center’s Board and parent community who volunteered at the St Johns rest station and surrounding intersections on Sunday August 11. We welcomed and directed, fed and protected 10,000+ bikers!
We also earned $500 for the center and brought back crates of leftover bananas, peaches, and bagels for the Drop-In kids and neighborhood families. Additional thanks to FOB Alan Cranna, the Overlook Neighborhood Association, and North Portland Neighbors for including us in plans for the rest station year after year.

5) Help Bring E.T. to Overlook Park!
We’ve got many organizations to thank for making the showing of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" a reality for us coming up on Sunday, September 1, at Overlook Park: Portland Parks & Recreation, The Prescott, Pemco Insurance, Overlook Restaurant, Arciform LLC, Ainsworth Wine and Gifts, Happy House Restaurant and Eddie’s Flat Iron Pizza.
Here’s a way you can show your appreciation and also participate in the festivities that day – volunteer! We need lots of volunteers for several specific assignments that will last only 30-60 minutes. The more who sign up, the better.

6) Job Announcement – Overlook House Program Coordinator (8/26)
The “Friends of the Overlook House”, a non-profit organization responsible for the stewardship of the Overlook House for the benefit of our neighborhood, is searching for a Program Coordinator. This is a part-time paid position (28 hrs/wk, no benefits, $16.00/hr.) reporting to the board of directors. This position is responsible for daily operations, including: booking paid events, scheduling community events, supervising staff, maintaining records, and promotion of the Overlook House.
Our ideal candidate will be a person that is self-directed and self-motivated, that easily initiates contacts, is a creative thinker, and has a commitment to our mission. Working with minimal supervision, being well organized, possessing keen attention to detail, and being able to work offsite are very important. Familiarity with word-processing, email, spreadsheet, and calendar software is also important.

7) TRAFFIC ADVISORY (8/19-8/23)
Street improvement and lane closure slated for week of August 19th on NE Killingsworth Street from 14th to 16th Avenue
Street improvements will require a lane closure on NE Killingsworth Street between NE 14th and 16th avenues from Monday, August 19 through Friday, August 23. The closure will apply each day from 7 a.m. through 3 p.m.
The public is advised to expect delays on NE Killingsworth Street while repairs are made. NE 15th Avenue will also be closed when the intersection of NE 15th and Killingsworth Street is paved. We ask the public to travel cautiously, observe the lane closure and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible.

-Lee Perlman, a long-time journalist and contributor to the Portland Observer, was found dead Friday at his home in northeast Portland. Lee has been a fixture in the neighborhood system in Portland and was a tireless reporter of our meetings and troubles. A memorial page has been set up to share memories with his family.
