Overlook Neighborhood Update (March 15)

1) OKNA’s March general meeting canceled

2) Consider taking the healthy lawn and garden pledge

1) OKNA’s March general meeting canceled

A reminder that this month’s Overlook Neighborhood Association general meeting has been canceled in response to the coronavirus (COVID-19) public health emergency. The meeting had been scheduled for Tuesday evening. OKNA will work with the planned presenters to visit at a future meeting.

OKNA joins many groups and businesses in encouraging appropriate social distancing and other precautions to reduce chances of spreading or contracting the coronavirus. Adidas closed its campus in Overlook for two days this week after two of its employees had contact with someone who tested positive for the virus. Learn more about the virus and best health practices at the Oregon Health Authority website.

Stay healthy and safe.

2) Consider taking the healthy lawn and garden pledge

The Overlook Neighborhood Association Sustainability Committee encourages neighbors to take a natural approach to maintaining their outdoor spaces. More than 450 Overlook neighbors have pledged to go pesticide-free in their yard and garden. By joining them, neighbors can support a safer, healthier community.

The Metro regional government coordinates the healthy lawn and garden pledge program. Participants who take the pledge receive a free lady bug yard sign. Visit the official website for more information about the pledge or to find information about natural gardening basics, composting, and working with garden challenges without resorting to toxic pesticides that can harm people, pets, waterways and wildlife. Avoiding pesticide use also can help people with respiratory or immune issues.

Let’s take good care of each other and the Earth.
