1) Annual neighborhood yard sale canceled

Amid all of the turbulence in 2020, Sustainable Overlook, a committee of OKNA, has canceled the annual neighborhood-wide yard sale. Honor social distancing guidelines made holding the event unfeasible.

The event typically occurs the third weekend of July. Sustainable Overlook encourages neighbors to participate in the Free Share July 18-19 by placing cleaned items curbside with a clearly-marked FREE sign. Then other neighbors may freely pick up and utilize items you no longer need or want. Please aim to pull back any remaining items by that Sunday evening.

OKNA and Sustainable Overlook hope that the neighborhood yard sale will return in 2021.

2) Street initiatives and a bridge closure

At the OKNA General Meeting on Tuesday, held via Zoom, residents heard a lot about ongoing and upcoming transportation issues that will affect Overlook and North Portland. If you weren’t able to attend or just want to learn more, you can catch up with these links:

Safe Streets Initiative – The program that has temporarily closed off some greenways to non-local vehicle traffic. In Overlook, this includes N Concord Avenue. Also check out the presentation material from PBOT.

Healthy Business – This program will allow businesses to use more sidewalk and street space to conduct business, including seating for restaurants.

Interstate Bridge lane closures – We heard from ODOT about plans to close the northbound span of the Interstate Bridge Sept. 12-20.

3) Shop Overlook

Shop Overlook, the new Overlook business association is still taking shape, but already it’s doing good work to promote neighborhood businesses as everyone struggles with the limitations imposed by Gov. Kate Brown in response to COVID-19. You can follow Shop Overlook on their website, Facebook and Instagram.

Overlook businesses that wish to be listed on the Shop Overlook site should visit the sign-up site.

OKNA encourages neighbors to support local businesses.
