The 2015 Providence Bridge Pedal is only a few weeks away. Overlook Neighborhood will run a rest stop, handing out food, water, etc. We need volunteers to represent the neighborhood. Your support will provide a double benefit.

First, you’ll be putting a face to our neighborhood. The Bridge Pedal is an opportunity to showcase Overlook.

Second, the Overlook Neighborhood Association receives $25 per volunteer that attends. If we provide 20 volunteers, OKNA will receive $500, and $500 will go a long way towards helping OKNA continue to deliver programing to the neighborhood such as the upcoming Movie in the Park.

The Overlook Neighborhood’s rest stop is located in Saint Johns at the U.S. Bank Plaza, and volunteers are needed from 7 a.m. to noon on Aug. 9. If you’d like to help out, email Alan Cranna at ascran3@hotmail.com.

2) Neighborhood street cleanup (Sunday, July 26)

Join your Overlook neighbors on Sunday for the next cleanup of Killingsworth Street.  The weather forecast predicts a lovely day, perfect for a little physical exertion.  Meet at Blend Coffee Lounge at 8:30 a.m.  Dress comfortably and bring work gloves; we’ll bring the rest.  If you have questions, contact the cleanup team at graffiti@overlookneighborhood.org.

3) Fire danger

Between the heat and the dry weather, Portland is vulnerable to fires. Fire fighters warn that the bluffs in North Portland, including in Overlook, are an area of special concern. Be careful with open flames, and if you see smoke, call 911. Time is of the essence when a fire breaks out.

4) Broadway Bridge closed to vehicles (Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26)

Heads up to anyone heading downtown this weekend. The Broadway Bridge will be closed to motor vehicles from 6 a.m. on Saturday, July 25 until no later than 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 26 to allow for installation of scaffolding over traffic lanes. The scaffolding will be used for this year’s painting project. Bridge sidewalks will remain open to pedestrians and bicyclists during the weekend.

Alternate river crossings open to motor vehicles include the Burnside, Fremont and Steel bridges.

The painting project is scheduled to be completed in March 2016. Multnomah County maintains the Broadway Bridge. Check online for project information.
