2) Overlook yard sale and free share (Saturday-Sunday, July 18-19)

Come out for the fifth annual Overlook yard sale and free share this weekend organized by Sustainable Overlook. give new lifecycles to items in our homes by selling, sharing, and socializing in the process.  Typically 30-50 households participate by putting out used but still useful items for sale.

2015-Overlook-Yard-Sale-Map_web-791x1024Items that neighbors did not sell the day before or simply willingly wish to give away to others will be left out near the curb of their home.

Through reuse we are helping to minimize our neighborhood’s waste stream as well as reminding each other of the inherent value and embodied energy that all of these material “things” possess.

Every year lots of great deals abound as together we turn unwanted items into newfound treasures.

Click on the map to see which neighbors registered their sale, but also spend some time wandering Overlook to find all the best deals.

3) Are your ready for the big one? (Wednesday, July 22)

If you read The New Yorker’s story about the possibility of a catastrophic earthquake in the Northwest, you’re probably ready to prepare for the worst. Let’s start preparing!

Overlook’s Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) is a group of your neighbors gearing up for … who knows?  Disaster preparedness needs everyone.  Come find out more on Wednesday as we start our skills and drills series along the north edge of Overlook Park 7 to 8 p.m.  If you have a ‘go bag,’ great.  If you don’t have one (or have never heard of such a thing), come by, just the same.  We want to meet you.  Look for orange helmets.

Regular meetings of the NET occur at Lucky Lab every other 2nd Monday (6:30 to 8:30 p.m.) starting Aug. 10. Send questions to overlookprepares@gmail.com.
