1) Development proposal for 5905 N Interstate Ave
The developer of a proposed mixed-use building at 5905 N Interstate Ave. (just south of Ainsworth) will hold a public meeting on Monday night. This is an opportunity for neighborhood residents to learn more about the project and provide input to the developer. The meeting will start at 6 p.m. at the Lucky Lab Tap Room on N Killingsworth St.
The proposed three-story building will hold 13 studio and six one-bedroom units as well as some commercial space on the ground floor. The property’s zoning requires that 25 percent of the ground floor be devoted to active use. We’ve posted the design packet for interested neighbors to review.
Last year, Portland adopted new rules for neighborhood notifications and meetings by developers. In the past, developers were required to present their projects at neighborhood association meetings. Now they may host their own meetings.
2) Make sure Portland counts in the Census
The 2020 U.S. Census is around the corner. This once-per-decade counting of everyone living in the United States is incredibly important for how the federal government views Portland and Oregon. The tally affects how many representatives we have in the U.S. House, how legislative districts are drawn, funding for many programs and more.
With so much hanging on the Census, it’s imperative that everyone complete the online census form when it arrives in the coming months.
In the meantime, conducting an accurate count requires a team of counters to make sure no one is missed. The U.S. Census Bureau is hiring. If you are interested in a temporary job with the Census, please apply at your earliest convenience. You can apply online. The pay rate for Multnomah County is $18 per hour, and benefits include flexible hours and training. Additional information is available online or call 503-265-3400.
3) Highway ramp closures continue
The Oregon Department of Transportation will continue nighttime ramps closures this week. Closures in Overlook are the I-5 south to I-405 south ramp and the Going Street on-ramp to I-5 south. The ramps will be closed 9 p.m. to 5 a.m., Monday to Friday. View a detour map and more details at i405ramps.org.
Construction is underway to repair and replace a number of freeway joints on the elevated sections of Interstate 405 on either side of the Fremont Bridge and from I-405 north to U.S. 26 west. These repairs will improve the condition and maintain the long-term safety and use of this heavily traveled freeway.
