Get your Home Signed Up for this Year’s Overlook Yard Sale

If you have some clutter you would like to part with, now is the time to get your home signed up for Overlook’s Annual Yard Sale on July 11th.  Each year, more than 50 homes participate by getting pinned on an anonymous map that we advertise in the Oregonian and GarageSale Finder to help drive foot traffic their way.  Having our sales on the same day is more effective and definitely more fun, especially since it’s the same day as Overlook’s Porchfest!

In order to get on the map, please sign up using this form: https://forms.gle/HDJGYT9i9yMM4ze18 Deadline to get signed up is Sunday June 28th!  If you miss the deadline, ping Josh at chair@overlookneighborhood.org, and he may be able to sneak you on.

And of course, don’t forget about the accompanying Free Share on Sunday July 12th.  Set any items curbside with a FREE sign and hope they get picked up and brought to a new home.  This will coincide with the second day of this year’s Overlook Porchfest, so we should have lots of curious folks mingling around the neighborhood.

Monthly Overlook Ride Sunday 6/14

Friendly reminder that the monthly Overlook ride is coming up this Sunday 6/14, 9:30am. Leaving from Stacks Coffeehouse 10:15am.

The ride is free, family-friendly, and is meant as both a meet and greet with neighbors, and as a get-to-know-your-way around kind of ride! We always keep the ride less than 6 miles/less than 1-hour, and end back at Stacks.

14-hour Closure of All Lanes of I-5 for Sign Bridge Installation This Summer

Expect an overnight closure of I-5 on all lanes for sign bridge installation this July, with the exact date to be announced soon. All lanes will be closed in both directions for up to 14 hours one weekend, from 10 p.m. on Saturday to noon on Sunday in the Rose Quarter. During this time, construction crews will be replacing the existing sign structure, or “sign bridge,” near the Oregon Convention Center. The sign bridge will support new traffic patterns as the project moves forward.

What to expect while traveling:
Travelers will be detoured to I-405 for travel in both directions. Regional traffic is encouraged to use I-205 as an alternate route.

What you can do:

  • Plan ahead and take advantage of navigation tools (e.g. TripCheck).
  • Consider your flexibility to avoid traveling or making appointments during the closure time, e.g. Sunday morning.
  • Choose another travel option through the area like bus, train, or carpool.
  • Plan for your trip to take extra time.

Visit our Construction Travel Impacts page or sign up for text alerts to stay up-to-date with the latest news on traffic impacts and active closures.

ODOT to Close I-5 southbound in the Rose Quarter in September for up to five weeks for Structural Repairs

PORTLAND – Starting Sept. 11, all southbound lanes of Interstate 5 in the Rose Quarter will close around-the-clock for up to five weeks. Construction crews will work 24 hours a day to conduct critical repairs and improve safety in this 2-mile section of I-5.

Drivers that are going into downtown Portland can exit at the North Broadway exit near the Moda Center. All other vehicles on I-5 southbound will be detoured to I-405. The Oregon Department of Transportation predicts significant delays and unpredictable travel times on many routes in the city.

“We are asking everyone to plan ahead,” said David Kim, ODOT’s statewide project delivery manager. “Many drivers have no other options than to drive through this area. If you have flexibility to change your travel plans, whether that’s traveling during off-peak times, using public transit, or planning an alternate route, please do.”

During the closure in September and October, ODOT predicts travel times on I-5 near the project site could be two to three times longer than a typical travel day if every driver sticks to their normal travel patterns. Congestion on I-5 southbound during the morning and afternoon commutes is expected to extend into Vancouver.

“This project team is really committed to having this work over as quickly and as safely as possible,” said interim ODOT Director Lisa Sumption. “I know it’s not ideal, but this single five-week closure is cheaper, faster and safer for workers compared to weekend or single lane closures that would go on for months. I appreciate everyone’s support as we make these safety improvements.”
