1) Almost Time for.. OKNA Picnic & Movie in the Park (Sunday! 9/1)
This Sunday we’ll come together to enjoy each other’s company, music, food, our special mystery guest and the viewing of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Bring blankets, jackets, food to enjoy and donate to the Sunshine Division (tuna and peanut butter), flashlights and your willingness to have a really good time. Festivities will start at 5:30 and the movie around 8:15. See you soon!

2) OLT Meets After the Holiday (9/8)
There is no Overlook Livability Clean Up this week due to the holiday weekend. Plan on meeting NEXT Sunday, September 8 at 9:00am in front of Di Prima Dolci Bakery, 1936 N Killingsworth St.
All newcomers are welcome to join us for a couple of hours straightening up a portion of the neighborhood, clearing graffiti, picking up trash and being out and about. 4) The Pilot Experience
The University of Portland and the University Park Business District are extremely proud to announce the launch of the Pilot Experience. The Pilot Experience is a discount card offered for free to all incoming university students and for sale to the faculty, alumni, staff and friends of the University for a $10.00 Fee with 50% of sales being donated to the alumni association. (Neighbors are friends!)

5) Special NPLUG in September (9/26)
There was no August meeting of NPLUG, the North Portland Land Use Group. There is a special presentation in September, so mark your calendars now. On September 26th, from 6:00-8:30 pm, NPLUG will be hosting Gregory Frank, City of Portland Hearings Officer to provide a presentation on the City’s land use hearing process. He will give a short background about land use hearings and the law associated with them. He will also explain “relevant approval criteria” for land use cases and focus on what he believes are effective hearing presentation techniques. This is a unique opportunity to hear inside information on the hearings process and gain valuable information about land use hearings. There will be ample time for question and answer period.

Safety Alert: An Overlook neighbor posted this to another site:
Secure any car, truck, or camper batteries. There has been a string of batteries stolen because you can return them for a core refund ranging from $10-$15. The battery exchange places in town are not requiring that a new battery be purchased in order to return a core. This is a problem and the battery places don’t seem to care. I had a battery stolen out of my little camper last year and a couple of weeks ago they tried again only to find that I had removed the battery. They did however cut the wires to where the battery is housed thinking they would just pull the battery out and run. I am going to continue to request that the battery companies stop accepting battery core’s without a new purchase.
Neighbor Reply: found my hood left a jar the other day, but TG they did not get my battery.
Neighbor Reply: A co-worker of mine, who lives in the Irvington neighborhood, had her car battery stolen a few months ago. The police told her that the reason was people using massive quantities of them to power household appliances – but the end result is the same.
Love this idea from our clever neighbors! If you have too much produce to deal with, the pantry could give it to someone who can use it.
