Beach School Foot Patrol

OKNA is pleased to learn that Overlook neighbors came together on their own and received training from our Crime Prevention Coordinator Mark Wells to start a safety foot patrol around Beach School.
Congratulations, neighbors, and thank you!

Join the Beach Foot Patrol

Neighbors of Beach School and Beach parents are working together to make Overlook an even safer and friendlier community by setting up the Beach Foot Patrol (“The BFP”).
The group has been active for only a month and is looking to add more members. The patrol goes out once a week at 9pm (and soon a 4pm shift is starting) to observe the area immediately around Beach school (but we also hit the Hydropark and the Going Street foot bridge).
The patrol is not a policing entity. Its mission is to build community in Overlook and create a positive, safe and friendly environment in our neighborhood. We are working to get the woo

dsy area next to the Beach School field/dog run cut back* and are also reaching out to area businesses (the Plaid Pantry and hotels along Interstate for starters) to address some littering and safety concerns expressed by neighbors. Members of the patrol commit to participating once a month by walking a 30-minute designated route with other members. Adidas America has donated jackets, so we can look good while we're reaching out! Look for the laid-back Beach Foot Patrol posse in red Adidas jackets and say, “Hello!” So far, we have about 20 members made up of long-term residents and newcomers, as well as Beach staff and parents.

If you're interested in participating or need a good excuse to go for a walk this Winter, please contact Overlook resident Suzanne Clarke: suzanneeclarke @ gmail.com.

*OKNA board members have just learned that clearing work has already begun on this corner of the Beach campus.
