1) Meadowscaping with FOOB (3/1)
Don’t forget – Meadowscaping on the Bluff with FOOB and SOLVE
Saturday March 1st — 9 am -1 pmat the oak meadow 3900 block of N. Overlook Terrace
SOLVE and Friends of Overlook Bluff invite you to help restore oak habitat along the Willamette Bluff in North Portland on Saturday. We need your help to add more hand-managed plots to the field that is home to a 200-year-old Heritage Oregon white oak tree. We’ll also seed native bunch grasses, plant native bare root stock, and weed established plots. You, your family, or your group can also adopt a plot!
Food and drinks provided. Dress for weather and outdoor work. We have some tools and gloves, but bringing yours will be helpful too. This project is part of FOOB”s ongoing effort to conserve a corridor of natural areas in North Portland that have ecological importance for the wildlife, watershed, and community. . 2) Overlook Sewer Construction Update
WHAT WE’VE HEARD FROM YOU:
Businesses and residents in the project area have commented many times about the project’s construction duration, basically — “when will this project be done?” We do understand that construction can have many significant effects to a residential and business neighborhood. The project is continuing on schedule and should be completed by late April. We’ll notify you if that changes.
We’ve also heard concerns about the amount of on-street parking that is being removed from public use while construction is occurring. It’s important that we provide adequate space for crews and equipment to operate safely, as well as to provide storage for materials and equipment. Removing parking spaces also ensures that the travelling public (cars and bikes) have enough space to safely travel past our construction zone. We are returning parking spaces to public use as quickly as is practical, and we are continuing to look at ways to reduce our construction footprint.
BUSINESSES OPEN DURING CONSTRUCTION
Please remember that businesses within construction zones are OPEN. If you are traveling to a business within the construction zone, you may see orange signs and barricades reading ROAD CLOSED to Thru Traffic – Local Access Only. The signs are intended to reduce overall traffic going through the area while construction is underway, but everyone living in or conducting business within the construction zone will be allowed access.
