Santa comes to Overlook House tomorrow!
The jolly old elf himself will arrive via firetruck on Sunday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. Kids will have a chance to whisper what they want for the holidays as they prepare to have their picture taken by the fire with Santa. There also will be face painting and a chance to listen to children’s favorite Red Yarn, who will be performing on the lower level at 11:15. This seasonal visit from Santa is sponsored for the neighborhood by the Friends of Overlook House.

NET Holiday Party
The Overlook Neighborhood Emergency Team will hold its annual holiday party on Monday, Dec. 11 at the Overlook Restaurant, 6-8 p.m. This meeting replaces the regular NET meeting and all are encouraged to attend to learn more about preparedness, meet the people you’ll want to know if an earthquake or other disaster strikes, and just have fun. There will be excellent prizes raffled off.

The annual Overlook Neighborhood Association Holiday Potluck Party takes place on Dec. 15 at Daybreak Cohousing, 6-8 p.m. Bring your favorite dish, drink or dessert to share. 2) Sen. Ron Wyden Portland town hall (Dec. 3)
Oregon’s Sen. Ron Wyden will hold a public town hall meeting tomorrow at Cleveland High School’s auditorium in Southeast Portland. Wyden will update residents about what’s been happening in Washington, D.C. This will be Wyden’s 80th town hall meeting of 2017.

3) Hearing on wood smoke ordinance
Do you have a wood-burning fireplace? If so, a proposed Multnomah County wood smoke ordinance could affect you. The county is considering a draft ordinance to reduce wood smoke during weather conditions called inversions events that occur on average 3 to 5 times per year. Inversions trap smoke from household or other fires creating smoky, hazy conditions.
The county will hold its final community hearing on the proposed ordinance on Thursday. Learn more about the ordinance online. The site also allows online comments if you can’t make it to the hearing.

4) Comment on state air quality rulemaking
Oregon’s current air quality rules have gaps and limits because they are based on federal regulations. As a result, industrial plants can operate legally but still emit pollutants at levels that could harm people’s health. The State Department of Environmental Quality’s Cleaner Air Oregon project has proposed new rules to help protect people by setting health-based standards for reducing air toxics.
The rules are currently in a public comment period that ends Dec. 22. You can review the rules and comment on them online. The Eastside Portland Air Coalition has prepared an information sheet on the proposed rules.
5) OKNA Board meeting (Dec. 5)
The Overlook Neighborhood Association Board will hold its monthly meeting on Tuesday evening. The board will discuss some proposed development projects and the holiday party. See the agenda.
