1) Home Earthquake Retrofit Workshop – Second workshop added! (Sat. Dec. 5)

The Dec. 5 morning Home Earthquake Retrofit Workshop filled quickly, so we’ve added a second in the early afternoon. Information about foundations, demonstration of how to bolt a houses to a solid foundation, and information on other ways of making houses more seismically stable. A perfect winter DIY project.

The workshop will take place at a residence in the neighborhood. Sign up by emailing sustainable@overlookneighborhood.org. The workshop is free, but a $10 donation is suggested.

2) Holiday Half & 5K (Sunday, Dec. 13)

The sixth annual Holiday Half & 5k race will start and finish at the Adidas campus on Dec. 13. Some of the race will pass through the Overlook neighborhood, and there will be some brief street closures that morning including Greeley Avenue until noon. The Southbound/eastbound lane of Willamette Boulevard also will be closed 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. View half marathon and 5k maps online.

The Holiday Half & 5k benefits Harper’s Playground and a variety of other local charities, schools and church groups.

Tow notice: Please do not park on Willamette Boulevard the morning of the race. The race organizers ask that motorists instead park in driveways or on side streets. In order to protect drivers, vehicles and runners, cars left on Willamette will be towed to the nearest safe spot. This is a free courtesy tow. There will be no bill. If you cannot find your vehicle, call 503-823-0044.

3) Adopt-a neighbor program

Overlook neighbors have shown amazing self-less spirits the past four years and REACH Resident Services is anxious to get the ball rolling for 2015. Families like those living at Patton Park Apartments (5272 N. Interstate) are often left out of gift-giving and receiving due to the hardships of primarily focusing on meeting basic needs.

REACH Community Development’s Patton Park Apartments is home to over 90 residents living below median income and therefore we are seeking Overlook neighbors who are interested in adopting a neighbor for the holidays.

If interested in adopting or for more information contact Patricia Haggerty, Resident Services Coordinator, at (503)546-1662 phaggerty@reachcdc.org.
