1) OKNA Holiday Potluck party (Friday, Dec. 11)

New Years PartyJoin your neighbors at our annual neighborhood holiday party. There will be door prizes and plenty of good cheer to go around as we have a chance to get to know our neighbors better. Kids are welcome.

It’s a potluck, if you are able, please bring a dish or beverage (alcohol is OK). But everyone is invited to come share in the cheer.

2) Neighborhood Emergency Team holiday party (Monday, Dec. 14)

Overlook’s Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) is hosting a holiday party for neighbors, too. Show up to celebrate the season and talk with the team. Learn about the exciting work they are doing to prepare Overlook for when emergency strikes. Hopefully the earthquake won’t hit during the party!

3) OKNA statement about homeless camp on N Greeley Avenue

The Overlook Neighborhood Association Board on Thursday sent a letter to Portland City Council asking that the city find a more humane place to host homeless campers than the site on N Greeley Avenue. Read the statement here.

4) Home Earthquake Retrofit Workshop – A few seats remain (Sat. Dec. 5)

The Dec. 5 morning Home Earthquake Retrofit Workshop filled quickly, so we’ve added a second in the early afternoon. Information about foundations, demonstration of how to bolt a houses to a solid foundation, and information on other ways of making houses more seismically stable. A perfect winter DIY project.

The workshop will take place at a residence in the neighborhood. Sign up by emailing sustainable@overlookneighborhood.org. The workshop is free, but a $10 donation is suggested.

5) Santa comes to Overlook House (Sunday, Dec. 6)

santaFriends of Overlook House will host a visit from the Jolly Old Elf himself on Sunday. Santa will arrive on a fire engine at 11 a.m. and the event continue to 1:30 p.m. Tell Santa what you want for Christmas and have your picture taken with him. Write a letter to the North Pole, get your face painted, play games and enjoy the festive holiday fun with us. See you there!
