1) Patton Square Park walkaround (Saturday)

Join the Overlook Neighborhood Emergency Team Saturday (tomorrow) 10 to 11 a.m. for a walk around Patton Square Park. The team will discuss plans for staging services in case of a catastrophic emergency like a major earthquake. Radio channel 5 will be open for those wishing to check-in ahead of time and test their radio’s range.

2) Development coming to Interstate Avenue

Mark your calendar now for the Sept. 20 Overlook Neighborhood Association general meeting. At the meeting, developers of several upcoming large residential projects on Interstate Avenue, including at Alberta and Webster Street, will present their projects and answer questions from residents. This is your chance to weigh in on the apartment buildings coming to our neighborhood.

Also at the meeting, we will hold our annual elections for the OKNA board. If you’d like to get more involved, you can declare your candidacy at the meeting. Board members are expected to attend two meetings most months on the first and third Tuesdays.

Next week’s neighborhood update will include an agenda for the meeting.

3) Is your pet ready for disaster? (Sept. 12)

earthquake-catWe all know how pet friendly Portland is, but what happens to our pets if there is a major disaster? How do we get them ready? What do we do when the disaster strikes? Are there places to take them while we put our own lives back together?

On Sept. 12, 7-8:30 p.m. at Peninsula Park Community Center West Gym, hear veterinarian Ross Weinstein of the Lombard Animal Hospital and resident of the Piedmont Neighborhood tell us what resources are available, and what preparations we can make ahead of disaster.
