1) Hazelnut Grove move and scooters at Tuesday’s neighborhood meeting

At April’s Overlook Neighborhood Association Meeting, the Joint Office of Homeless services will present an update on the planned move of the Hazelnut Grove homeless camp to St. Johns. We’ll also hear about the return of e-scooters to Portland streets, including an opportunity to test ride an e-scooter. Helmets will be available. Check out the full agenda.

Join your neighbors on Tuesday, April 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at Kaiser Town Hall (3704 N Interstate Ave.) to find out what else is happening in Overlook. Scooter test rides will begin about 6 p.m. behind Kaiser Town Hall.

2) OKNA supports Columbia Pool

As we reported a few weeks ago, Portland Parks & Recreation has suggested closing Columbia Pool in 2020. The OKNA board believes that the pool is an important North Portland resource that should not be shuttered until a replacement is built. The board therefore submitted a letter to City Council urging it to keep the pool open.

3) Adidas code enforcement

Adidas has been using five houses that it bought around its Overlook campus for construction management and staging space as part of its ongoing expansion project. Using homes in a residential neighborhood in this way violates city code. OKNA’s adidas liaison, Stefan Bester, has been in contact with the company for months about this use in hopes of finding an alternative that would contain construction facilities to the adidas campus.

Those conversations have not proved fruitful. The OKNA board therefore submitted a formal request to the city’s code enforcement office that it direct adidas to cease using the homes in a manner that violates Portland code. We remain hopeful that the company will find a suitable alternative to contain its operations on the campus so as to minimize construction-related disruptions for neighbors.

4) Come out to support Beach Elementary

Beach Elementary, Overlook’s neighborhood school, will hold its annual fundraiser on Saturday April 27, organized by the PTA. The evening of fun, food and fundraising will feature an auction, food, drinks and live music. The event will take place at Urban Studios in Northwest.

The online auction opens on Tuesday.

All funds raised help our neighborhood school support key supplemental programs, expand technology and provide teacher classroom grants. Join your neighbors for a fun-filled night of brews, bites and bids. Find out more about attending or becoming a sponsor online.
