3) I-5 Closures Coming (July 13)

The project to resurface Interstate 5 between Northeast Holladay Street and the Marquam Bridge begins the weekend of July 13 with the first of five weekend directional closures. Travelers heading through Portland should consider using Interstate 205 or Interstate 405 to bypass the closures.

The first weekend closure will take place in the southbound lanes, with access closed from I-5 south to Interstate 84, although local traffic to the Rose Quarter from I-5 south can use the Rose Quarter off-ramp (exit 302A).
11 p.m. Friday, July 13 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 16 – I-5 southbound will close
11 p.m. Friday, July 20 to 5 a.m. Monday, July 23 – I-5 southbound will close

Weekend directional closures are necessary to allow the contractor replace damaged concrete panels and repair failed utilities under the freeway. Detour maps are available on the project website atwww.oregon.gov/ODOT/HWY/REGION1/pages/i5holladay/index.aspx.

There is quite a bit more detail available (thank you Brad H!); if you would like to know more please email Michelle at Info@OverlookNeighborhood.org and I will forward you the entire message.

4) Hazard Maps Released

What’s the earthquake risk in your neighborhood? Is your home or business located on a flood plain? To find out the answers to these questions and more, new maps created by PBEM in partnership with Portland’s neighborhood coalition offices are now available. The maps offer an account of known earthquake faults, flood plains and other dangers, including hazardous material sites, steep slopes and forested areas at risk of fire. The maps also show community resources – such as evacuation routes and key transportation corridors used during emergencies, hospitals, county clinics, schools, fire stations and police facilities.

See the NPNS map that includes Overlook: http://www.portlandonline.com/oem/index.cfm?c=58572&a=394650

You can also look up a specific address and find the hazards recorded for it at http://www.portlandmaps.com

5) Nonconforming Sewer Program Changes ($$)

Have you paid for or financed a sewer conversion charge since January 2, 2008? If so, a proposal is on the table that could net you a refund of some of your costs!

If you have not yet had to deal with a nonconforming sewer, you will want to know about these changes as well. Please click through and have a short read. http://www.portlandonline.com/bes/index.cfm?c=58822&a=399608

The WORLD is at our feet… literally!
http://aboardtheworld.com/reside
Thanks to past resident Bob S who pointed it out to me this morning as he was cleaning graffiti from the Bluffs benches. I heard about this ship when it debuted (and fantasized about buying in) but I NEVER thought it would dock in Portland!
Walk over and take a look.. they don’t publish their itinerary, so who knows how long they will be here.
