3) Community Disaster Preparedness Expo (6/2)

ResiliencePDX is an event to connect Portlanders who want to acquire or share knowledge and skills about disaster preparedness. Geologists suggest we are due for a major earthquake in this region, and better preparedness can save lives and minimize impacts of a disaster. The more we are prepared, the faster we will be able to recover and return to ‘normalcy’. At this event, we will showcase the various groups around Portland that can serve as resources for the community before, during, and after a major emergency. There will also be a number of skills workshops, where experts will share knowledge to help you prepare for and recover from a disaster. So come and learn, it’s all for free!

The following workshops will be offered:
Earthquake-Proofing Your Home
Preparing a Comprehensive Household Kit
Food Storage/Preservation & Clean and Potable Water
Home Energy
Organizing your Neighbors
Putting Out Fires

4) Neighborhood History Project Seeks Participation

Do we have any history buffs (hobbyists, collectors, long term residents, story-tellers, educators) out there?

Historian Tim Lyman has launched the “Neighborhood History Project" with the immediate goals of identifying: existing neighborhood history groups; people who might be interested in forming groups; those who could contribute to neighborhood histories; and people interested in representing all neighborhood history groups.
The long term goal is to create a self-sustaining structure for preserving and promoting neighborhood history.

If you would like to become involved, or know someone who might, Tim can be contacted at neighborhoodhistory[at]gmail.com. He offers an informative email newsletter; view it here and join the list: http://tinyurl.com/872y94n
We have the seeds of an Overlook group starting; email OKNA if you’d like to know more.
