The Rebuilding Center needs help moving a deconstructed house from Overlook Park to their warehouse on Mississippi Ave. BIG loads. LONG loads. HEAVY loads. lots of lumber, bricks, siding, flooring, all to be hauled. Refreshments provided. 1.2 miles, with hills.
Everyone welcome, whether you have a trailer or not. We need help loading, and there might be extra trailers.

3) North Portland PSAC Meeting (2/27)
The next North Portland PSAC meeting is Wednesday, February 27th at 7:00 pm.
Our guest presenter is Cameron Herrington from the Bureau of Environmental Services. They are accepting applications for grant funding for projects that improve watershed in the city. He will share a success story from SE Portland that improved watershed, but also decreased criminal activity in the project area. Let's have our own success story in North Portland!
ATTENTION: People who expressed an interest in the “Dog Bowl” project announced a couple of weeks ago, take note. This is one grant program proposed to fund improvements! Attending this meeting will be a great head start.

4) Jefferson Grad Returns With Portland Timbers
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Mwanga who starred on the Jefferson High School soccer team and Oregon State University, has recorded 15 goals and nine assists in 79 regular-season matches over four MLS seasons. He is returning for his second season with the Portland Timbers.
Mwanga, 21, played in 18 matches for the Timbers last season, scoring three goals after joining the club in a trade with the Philadelphia Union on June 6.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, Mwanga has recorded 15 goals and nine assists in 79 regular-season matches over four MLS seasons.
“It is very exciting to come back and continue to play in my hometown with the Timbers, and I am grateful to be able to play in front of such a great group of fans that have supported me through high school, college, and now, my professional career,” said Mwanga.
He played club soccer at Adidas Timbers alliance club Westside Timbers as a boy.

5) Sunday Parkways Wants You (to volunteer)
Hello North Portland,
In May we kick off the Sunday Parkways season! Last year we had 103,350 people participate during the five dates. Now that these events have become a Portland tradition, we expect more people to come out and play in the streets.

6) Scam Warning/Elderly Victims
Overlook's Officer Garrison reminded us at this week’s OKNA meeting to be wary of door-knocking scams in the neighborhood; people coming around and scoping out houses or perhaps finding out who is home alone during the day. There is a particular concern for our older residents, including this scam over the phone, linked below.

7) City Budget Woes Aimed at Neighborhoods
Neighborhood associations hope to preserve meager funding in face of citywide cuts
What do you think? Are Neighborhood Associations tools of city government, or citizen action hubs? The proposed budget throws the NAs under the bus; should we let the funding go or fight for it?
OKNA uses communications funds to print our quarterly newsletter, we rely heavily on our Crime Prevention Coordinator (ours is the newest hire), DEPEND on our graffiti abatement assistance & neighborhood grants fund many of our cool neighbor-generated projects. All of these programs face severe cuts.
We'll probably ask you to stand up for us, but we're interested in your thoughts. Would you go to a budget hearing to speak up for the Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI)?
