1) OKNA Meeting This Tuesday (2/19)
Join us for the monthly meeting of your neighborhood association, come meet your neighbors and learn about what’s happening in Overlook. The 3rd Tuesday of Every Month
February 19th, 2013
7:00-9:00 pm
@ Kaiser Town Hall
Corner of Interstate and Overlook Blvd
3704 N Interstate Avenue
On the agenda this month:
♦ The Comprehensive Plan & You, an update from Barry Manning, Bureau of Planning & Sustainability
♦ ’Going to the River’ Update. Ross Swenson from the Bureau of Transportation will answer your questions about N Skidmore & N Going
♦ Coal Trains – Progress Report. Jasmine Zimmer-Stucky returns with the latest news on coal train permits in North Portland
♦ Presentation:
You’ve changed your light bulbs, insulated your attic, maybe even installed solar panels. What’s next? What else can you do to make your home more energy efficient, without breaking the bank? Portland energy efficiency pioneer John Sorenson tells us about DIY Home Energy projects, including a furnace, a whole-house ventilator, thermal solar panels and refrigerator super-insulation – all that you can build (and repair!) yourself at much lower cost!
We’ll also be hearing about traffic issues around Beach School and enjoy our usual public safety and other reports. See you at the meeting!

2) Portland Police Have Two Requests
Mobile App Users
Each day the Portland Police Bureau sends out Flash Alerts and other notifications to our Portland residents. To enhance our communication and ability to collaborate with our community to improve safety in our city, we are currently exploring the development of a new mobile app. This idea, generated by one of our officers, would allow users to configure news feeds from us based on areas of interest so that they can keep better informed about safety issues that directly affect them.
Your thoughts about this project would be extremely helpful. Can you give us a few minutes of your time to share them with us?

Portland Police Bureau Survey
If you’ve attended OKNA meetings in the past year, we’d like to hear from you. The purpose of this survey is to evaluate police participation and communication with Neighborhood Associations across the city.
The survey itself is available online at http://neighborhoodassociationsurvey.questionpro.com/, and should take about 20-25 minutes to complete. I am also happy to provide hard copies of the survey upon request. The survey asks questions about the demographics of your association, the specific participation of police in your meetings, and what kind of interactions with the police bureau you would like to see. Even if you have had limited or no involvement with the police bureau we would still ask you to take the survey, as the information about the lack of outreach from the bureau is important to us.
If you would please distribute the survey to people who have attended multiple Neighborhood Association meetings in the past year that would be great.
Thank you

3) Nuts About Nature Program for Kids
Hello! My name is Chrissy Larson, and I direct the Nuts About Nature program with Portland Parks & Rec – City Nature.
I am running classes this Winter & Spring in Southeast, North and Northeast Portland. The classes are drop-off style nature classes for children 3-6 years old, and each class lasts 2 hours. Children travel through the park in small groups of 5-8 with two of our highly-trained Preschool Naturalists. Children have a chance to explore, play, hear stories, and eat a snack along the trail. More information can be found by reading the full brochure here: http://www.portlandoregon.gov/parks/article/204359 Partial scholarship money is available through the NIKE Play program.
Currently, I have spaces available for the Winter sessions at Mt Tabor Park (Tuesday afternoons), Peninsula Park (Wednesday afternoons), and Sellwood Park (Friday afternoons). I am also interested in trying to find some new families to join us at Whitaker Ponds Natural Area this April & May on Wednesday afternoons. If people have questions, they can always contact me!
