1) Overlook Neighborhood Association meeting

Join your Overlook neighbors at our monthly OKNA meeting on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at the Kaiser Town Hall. We’ll hear about upcoming development projects in the neighborhood, a pro and con on the upcoming $475 million Metro outdoors bond measure and more. Check out the full agenda.  (Note: The agenda has been updated. Adidas will present in November instead of this month.)

2) Construction begins on Greeley multiuse path

Work has begun on the Portland Bureau of Transportation’s N Greeley Avenue Multiuse Path and Paving Project. The project will repave the entire width of Greeley from  N Going Street to N Interstate Avenue and install a two-way, 1-mile path on the east side of Greeley along the same stretch separated by a concrete barrier.

The installation of a protected multiuse path is expected to reduce bike crashes. The roadside barriers will also reduce the severity of crashes and prevent run off the road crashes.

During construction, incremental lane closures will be required along Greeley. PBOT traffic engineers will monitor traffic in the area closely and make adjustments to the traffic control plan as necessary to accommodate freight and other traffic accessing Swan Island. This is critical because of the lane closures on the Going Street Bridge following the Union Pacific train derailment last month.

People biking are asked to use the designated bicycle detour on Interstate and Willamette Boulevard during construction. The detour is expected to remain in place for the duration of construction, which is estimated to be completed by late-winter, early-spring 2020.

For more information, please visit the N Greeley Avenue Multiuse Path and Paving Project website.

3) I-5 to Fremont Bridge ramp closures

The Oregon Department of Transportation will continue its work on the Fremont Bridge next weekend.  The ramp from Interstate 5 South to Interstate 405 (Fremont Bridge) will close from 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18 to 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 21. Drivers should expect delays in the area. Detour traffic will be directed across the Marquam Bridge.

ODOT also will close the Going Street southbound entrance onto I-5 for the same period. Traffic will be detoured to the Rosa Parks onramp.

Both the I-5 to I-405 and Going Street ramps also will close from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday nights next week. Detours will be the same.

4) Untapped turns five

Overlook’s neighborhood taproom and growler filler celebrates its fifth anniversary on Saturday (Oct. 12) at its location on the ground floor of the Prescott Building (across from the Max stop). The invite all neighbors to come out for a chili cookoff, music, beverages and lots of fun. The celebration gets underway  at noon and will continue until 11 p.m.

Find the full schedule of festivities and other information at the event webpage.

5) Historic Overlook House Halloween Party

Mark your calendar now for the Historic Overlook House Halloween Party on Oct. 31. Bring your little ghosts and witches for a fun evening of games, spooky dancing and healthy treats. The fun starts at 4 p.m. and ends at 6.

Avoid the rain, the dark and the rush with your little kids (ages 0-6). The house is warm and dry and a great place to show off your costume before trick or treating. This event is free to our neighbors and friends. Friends of Overlook House appreciates donations to keep this neighborhood resource going.

6) Prescription drug turn-in and shred event

Drive, walk or bike-up and drop off your unwanted/expired prescription drugs and sensitive documents. Drugs will be safely incinerated and documents will be securely shredded. By participating, you reduce the risk of identity theft and misuse of prescription drugs.

The event is put on by the city on Saturday, Oct. 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 4735 E Burnside Street. Find out more, including accepted and not-allowed items.

7) Legislative town hall

Overlook’s legislative delegation will hold a town hall from 10 a.m. to noon on Oct. 26 at Portland Community College-Cascade Moriarty Auditorium. Join House Speaker Tina Kotek, Rep. Tawna Sanchez and Sen. Lew Frederick to discuss the past session and plans for next year in the State Capitol.
