1) Santa Claus to visit Overlook House (Sunday, Dec. 6)
Friends of Overlook House will host a visit from the jolly old elf himself on Sunday, Dec. 6 from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Be there at 11 to see Santa Claus arrive on a fire engine. Tell Santa what you want for the holidays and have your picture taken with him. Write a letter to the North Pole, get your face painted, play games, and enjoy the special holiday fun.

Legacy Health is offering free flu shots to people age six months and older the week of Dec. 7. Shots will be available in North Portland at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center on Monday from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. No one wants to get the flu. Get your shot and improve your chances of a healthy winter.

Thinking about renting out some space? Already a landlord? Portland’s Bureau of Development Services offers training to make sure landlords know the rules. There four opportunities to attend the one-day class in December. (See all of the dates and locations by clicking here.)
Since 1989, this nationally recognized program has taught over 18,500 Portland-area owners and managers representing over 383,000 rental units on how to keep illegal activity out of rentals, maintain property in compliance with City maintenance regulations, and partner with City services/programs both to provide habitable housing and protect their residential property investment. The Landlord Training Program is made available by funding received from the Portland Police Bureau, Portland Fire & Rescue, Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and Office of Neighborhood Involvement.
This program is constantly updated to current laws and issues, and has been adopted by over 550 cities and counties across the nation. The content of the course reflects in-depth research with organizations and individuals in police work, housing maintenance, property management, law, and public housing.
The Workshop focuses on keeping rental properties safe and free of illegal activity by training landlords in effective property management, and techniques for dealing with illegal activities by tenants.
The classes are free to attend, but participants are strongly encouraged to purchase a $20 Landlord Training manual.
