1) OKNA Special Board Meeting (Tuesday)

The Overlook Neighborhood Association Board will hold a special meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 29 at Kaiser Town Hall (3704 N Interstate Ave.) to address time-sensitive items. The agenda includes discussions about whether to weigh in on a conditional use permit for a short-term rental at 1467 N Shaver St., whether to urge the city to re-open public input on the Residential Infill Project, and whether to authorize funding for a movie in the park this summer.

Overlook residents and other members of the public are welcome to attend and observe the meeting. The board will hold its regular monthly meeting on Feb. 5.

2) Legislative town hall meeting

House Speaker Tina Kotek (who represents the north half of Overlook), Rep. Tawna Sanchez (south half of Overlook) and Sen. Lew Frederick (all of Overlook) will hold a legislative town hall meeting on Sat., Feb. 2, 10-noon at Portland Community College – Cascade Campus, Student Union 204.

Find out what our local lawmakers hope to accomplish in Salem this year and ask them your questions. All three are Democrats, the party that now has a super-majority in the Capitol. Among the issues Democrats plan to tackle this year are a ban on single-family housing zones in cities, increased funding for education, new tax revenue sources and rent control.

3) Free spay/neuter services for feral and stray cats

Do you have a feral or stray cat living nearby? Want to make sure there isn’t a litter of them in a few months? There’s something you can do.

Throughout February, the Feral Cat Coalition of Oregon (FCCO) will provide free spay/neuter services for feral and stray cats.

February is a good time to spay/neuter cats before the spring breeding season.

Spaying and neutering unhoused cats improves livability in the neighbor for humans and pets. With fewer kittens born, there will be fewer fights and bad interactions with pets. More birds and other wildlife will survive, too.

Anyone who is feeding feral or stray cats qualifies for this special offer, regardless of income. Services include spay/neuter surgery, vaccines, flea treatment, pain relief medication and an ear-tip for identification. FCCO also will offer specials for pet cats in the last week of February. FCCO can provide live traps to safely capture and transport cats.

Visit the FCCO website to learn more.

Contact FCCO at 503-797-2606 to schedule an appointment. Space is limited, so don’t delay.
