Overlook Neighborhood Update (Dec. 30)

1) Happy New Year! Be safe

2) OKNA board meeting canceled

3) Public safety in 2019

1) Happy New Year! Be safe

The Overlook Neighborhood Association wishes everyone a Happy New Year. We hope you keep your celebrations safe by indulging responsibly and not driving if you have been drinking or consuming any other intoxicants. Even if you haven’t been drinking on Monday night, be extra cautious on the roads as other motorists won’t be as responsible.

The best option is to take advantage of the many alternatives to driving yourself. The Portland Bureau of Transportation is working with taxis, transportation network companies, police and bar owners to offer reduced-cost rides home on New Year’s Eve. Discounts begin at 8 p.m. Monday and run through the night. They include:

  • Up to $20 savings on taxi rides. Coupons will be available for pickup at participating locations.
  • A $5 savings on rides with Lyft and Uber. Riders can access the discount by entering a promo code into their apps. The promo code can be retrieved at participating locations.
  • Free TriMet buses and Max as well as Streetcar rides until service ends Monday night.

Visit PBOT’s website a complete list of participating locations at which you can pick up a coupon or ride share codes. The Old Gold and Lucky Lab on N Killingsworth Street are among the participating sites.

2) OKNA board meeting canceled

The Overlook Neighborhood Association’s board meeting scheduled for Jan. 1 has been canceled for the New Year’s holiday. The next neighborhood meeting will be on Jan. 15 at Kaiser Town Hall.

We have several exciting items lined up for the Jan. 15 agenda including presentations about upcoming I-405 ramp closures and about updating the city’s environmental protection zone map. A full agenda will come out soon.

3) Public safety in 2019

Starting in 2019, the North Precinct Public Safety Action Committee (PSAC) meetings will take place on a quarterly basis instead of on a monthly basis as in 2018. The meetings will be held at two alternating locations in order to be more accessible to community members within the North Precinct neighborhoods.

The following is the North Precinct PSAC meeting schedule in 2019. Each takes place 6-8 p.m.:

  • Jan. 10: PPB North Precinct (449 NE Emerson)
  • April 11: Central Northeast Neighbors (4415 NE 87th Ave)
  • July 11: PPB North Precinct (449 NE Emerson)
  • Oct. 10: Central Northeast Neighbors (4415 NE 87th Ave)

The North Precinct PSAC is a unique opportunity for the community to meet one-on-one with city officials and North Precinct police staff and discuss specific issues in your neighborhood. It is also a valuable space to collaborate on public safety issues with other community members. The agenda for the Jan. 10 meeting will be available early in the New Year.
