1) Happy Holidays from OKNA
The Overlook Neighborhood Association wishes everyone in the neighborhood and beyond a wonderful holiday season. Our annual holiday party on Friday was a roaring success with more than 40 neighbors in attendance. Great food and even better company were enjoyed by all.
Thank you to the organizers, especially Board Member Addie Humbert and former Board Member Tamara Maher; Daybreak Cohousing who hosted us again this year; and everyone who donated prizes for the raffle.
The weekly update will take next week off to spend solstice time with friends and family. We’ll return before New Year’s Eve.
2) Holiday garbage pickup
All Portland residents with curbside collection service will have schedule changes from December 25 through January 6. There is no collection service on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day. All pick-ups will happen one day later than usual. Pickup for Friday customers will happen on Saturday during this date range.
You can sign up for a weekly email that includes weather messages and reminders for collection days at garbagedayreminders.com.
3) Travel safely New Year’s Eve
If you’re planning to have a few adult beverages on New Year’s Eve or just to stay up later than usual, do everyone a favor and don’t get behind the wheel. Instead, the Portland Bureau of Transportation has coordinated free and discounted ride options with the Safe Ride Home program:

- Save $10 on Lyft and Uber citywide
- Free TriMet and Portland Streetcar rides after 8 p.m.
- MAX trains run until 3 a.m.
