1) Fun for all at the Overlook Holiday Party
Neighbors had a fun-filled evening at the annual Overlook Neighborhood Association holiday party. The food was great, and the companionship even better as old friends and new friends had a chance to socialize, discuss what’s happening in Overlook and share some holiday cheer.
Thanks to The Arlo apartments for hosting the party and providing tours of the new building. Thanks also to the businesses that contributed a great selection of door prizes:
2) Leaf Day in the Overlook Triangle
Overlook residents in the triangle will enjoy leaf pick up on Wednesday (Dec. 18). Residents should rake leaves from their yards into the street by Tuesday night, maintaining about 12 inches of space between the pile and the curb. Please remove debris such as branches and trash from the pile.
In order to facilitate the pickup and make life easy for sweepers, please remove vehicles and other obstacles like basketball hoops and garbage bins from the street on Wednesday. If you cannot move your vehicle, leave plenty of space between the vehicle and leaf piles.
Learn more about Leaf Day and how to prepare.
There is no charge for this service provided to select neighborhoods and funded by all taxpayers.
3) Co-living project at N Montana and Jessup
The Overlook Neighborhood Association has submitted comments on a proposed five-story, multi-dwelling residential building at the intersection of N Montana and Jessup. The building would house 11 large residential units, each with 6 to 12 bedrooms.
The developer of this project presented it at the Oct. 15 OKNA general meeting as “co-living.” However, the developer has told the city they intend to comply with the definition of “household living” in code and therefore needn’t apply for a conditional use permit.
OKNA believes that given the design of the building and statements made at the general meeting this project in fact will be “group living” under the code. That use requires a conditional use permit, and the neighborhood has therefore asked that they city require one. We are neutral on whether that permit should be granted, but going through the process will ensure that neighbors have an opportunity to thoroughly review the project and potential impacts of group living on the neighborhood.
If the city does not require a conditional use permit, OKNA has suggested that compliance with the household living definition be a condition of approval.
The notice of development is available online. If you’d like to submit your own comments, send them to Benjamin.Nielsen@portlandoregon.gov by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 17. Reference the case number LU 19-244401 DZ.
