1) Annual ice cream social is today

Don’t forget to join your neighbors at the annual Overlook Neighborhood Ice Cream Social this evening (Sunday) 5-7 p.m. at the Historic Overlook House (3839 N Melrose Dr.). We’ll be in the house’s beautiful back gardens enjoying ice cream sundaes, grilled food, beer, cider and more. Be sure to get there early enough to buy some raffle tickets for great prizes provided by many local businesses.

2) OKNA Board meeting on Tuesday

The Overlook Neighborhood Association Board will meet on Tuesday to discuss several end-of-summer topics. The agenda includes items about the upcoming movie in the park, neighborhood summer social, OKNA elections, a proposal to write neighborhoods out of city code and more.

Board meetings are open to all residents to attend and observe board discussions.

3) Get help understanding new landlord-tenant rules

Are you a landlord in Portland? The slew of new rules passed by council and the Legislature in the past couple of years might be overwhelming. Or maybe you’re a tenant unclear about your rights under the new rules.

If you have landlord-tenant questions, answers are available. The city’s Rental Services Office is running a traveling help desk on Saturdays in August. They will come to North Portland on Aug. 17 at the St. Johns Library (7510 N Charleston Ave.), 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The Portland Housing Bureau’s Rental Services Office was created as a resource for renters and landlords of residential properties to get technical assistance and information about Mandatory Relocation Assistance, Portland Renter Additional Protection (PCC 30.01.085), and related topics such as new state-wide limits on rent increases and just-cause requirements for terminating rental agreements.
