Bridge Pedal Tomorrow, August 8
The Providence Bridge Pedal is back for 2021 on Sunday and will close several area bridge lanes to vehicle traffic so bikers and walkers can participate in the event.
The ride kicks off as early as 6 a.m. and includes seven Willamette River bridges. Organizers close travel lanes, bridges and the streets as early as 4 a.m. to safely accommodate thousands of bicyclists and pedestrians.
Here is the list of Portland’s bridges and their availability to vehicle traffic early Sunday according to organizers:
- St. Johns: open in both directions
- Fremont: upper deck closed until noon
- Broadway: open in both directions
- Steel: closed in both directions until noon
- Burnside: open
- Morrison: lane restrictions until 11 a.m.
- Hawthorne: closed eastbound until 11:30 a.m.
- Marquam: upper deck closed until 11 a.m.
- Ross Island: westbound closed until 10:30 a.m.
- Sellwood: travel lanes open, north sidewalk closed until 9:30 a.m.
- Tilikum Crossing: open to bikes, pedestrians and TriMet vehicles
The Going St on-ramp to Southbound I-5 will be closed when the Fremont Bridge is closed.  I-5 SB is a parking lot during this time so avoid it.  Interstate will be closed below Overlook Park, and Greeley will be closed south of Going. If you must cross the river Sunday morning, use the St John’s Bridge or take Vancouver Ave south and join I-5 southbound at the Rose Quarter then head to the Morrison Bridge or Marquam Bridge Southbound. The Max will be running normally during this time.
Virtual Personal Safety Class
Several residents in Overlook have asked about safety in the neighborhood stating that they have seen a rise in property crime and mental health issues. The City of Portland offers a 2 hour Zoom class on Personal Safety. We would like to offer this class to the Overlook residents. If you are interested please email overlookna@gmail.com. We will gather contact information and pass it along to the Office of Civic and Community Life, and OCCL will contact the residents to set up a time for the class.
The class will include:
- Role of Intuition
- Challenging problematic behavior respectfully
- Verbal De-escalation
- Physical and environmental safety considerations
- Being an Upstander versus being a Bystander.
