1. Community Block Party – Re-Paint the Intersection With Us!

The colorful intersection repair at N Overlook Blvd/N Failing/N Concord is ready for a facelift and you’re invited to come and meet your neighbors; join us for a painting party and planning our new permanent planter boxes that make this intersection a neighborhood treasure!
We will provide the paint and close the street; bring your paint brushes, rollers or foam daubers to leave your mark on this landmark street graphic or just drop by to meet some of your neighbors and cheer us on. Originally installed in 2012, we meet periodically to fix up our paint, add plants and keep the intersection of these two neighborhood greenways safer and more friendly.
Are you a music maker or want to entertain the crowd in some other creative way? We’re looking for all kinds of block party fun to go on during the event on Saturday, July 24, 2021 from 9am – 4pm. Let us know what you’d like to contribute!
Participation is open to all abilities, ages and artistic talent; showing up to be together is what counts! And if you cannot participate in person, you can support this project financially. With no group sponsorship this year, we must crowdsource for this neighborhood resource and ask you to contribute as you can. The cost of paint has doubled since our original paint day and your donations will leave a colorful mark on the neighborhood!
The Facebook event has all the information as well; please share this with your neighbors: https://www.facebook.com/events/3097302107222659
Your neighborhood organizers include Amara Callahan, Josh Cabot, Leslee Lewis, Marsha Parks and Michelle Thompson. Message us at mxthompsonpdx@gmail.com

2. Heritage Tree Dedication July 8

5. Firework Ban In Effect

Portland, as well as other jurisdictions around Oregon and SW Washington, has instated a complete firework ban ahead of this weekend’s Fourth of July holiday in hopes to prevent any unintentional forrest fires. With the hot weather we’ve had in the weeks leading up to the holiday local leaders have said they fear even small fireworks could create significant danger. Please stay safe this weekend. 6. Overlook Neighborhood Garage Sale

QUICK REMINDER that this year’s Overlook Yard Sale will be Saturday July 17th, running from 10am-4pm (more or less).  This is a chance to group our neighborhood’s yard sales together on the same date, aggregating them together to help drive more foot traffic by interested buyers and give neighbors a chance to take a moment and reconnect.  If you wish to be included on this year’s neighborhood map for the yard sale, please fill out the quick form at this link:   http://sustainableoverlook.org/sale-and-share-2021
Your address (but no other personally-identifiable information) will be shared on an online map that buyers can use to find the homes having sales that day. The deadline to sign up is this coming Friday July 9th.  You do not need to sign up to participate, but it could help bring you more business.
The complementary Free Share will happen the next day, Sunday July 18th, in which yard sale hosts or anyone with unused items can set them out curbside with a FREE sign in the hopes they will be taken into another home, helping to extend their lifecycle and avoiding the landfill.
We hope to see you out there!
