1) OKNA Board elections (Sept. 19)
The Overlook Neighborhood Association will hold its annual meeting and board election on Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. The board is excited to announce that adidas will host our meeting at the North American headquarters. We’ll be in the red building with access from the courtyard by the tennis courts. Adidas staff will be present to help guide people to the meeting space. As we are guests on the adidas campus, please do not bring pets to the meeting.
At the annual meeting, we will elect the OKNA board for 2017-18. Up to 15 people can serve on the board, and we hope that people representing a broad cross-section of the neighborhood choose to run. We’re looking for people who are committed to keeping Overlook the best neighborhood in Portland, people who are willing to work on fun events like our annual parties and organizing informative monthly meetings. Board members are expected to attend both our monthly board meeting and general meeting.
The only formal requirement for candidacy is that one be an eligible member of OKNA. That means you must live in the neighborhood (provide a home address or identify a site where you live if no address), own a business in the neighborhood or be a designated representative of a non-profit registered in the neighborhood.
Residents interested in running for the board are encouraged to send an email to info@overlookneighborhood.org by Friday, Sept. 15 with their name, where they live, and the name of their business or nonprofit if appropriate. Every eligible candidate who submits that information by Sept. 15 will be included on the ballot. Write-in candidates may declare their candidacy at the annual meeting.
Prior to the vote, all candidates will be given one or two minutes (depending on how many candidates there are) to speak to the membership. Voters may vote for up to 15 candidates.
Even if you aren’t running for the board, we hope that residents come out to participate in our local democracy and see the inside of adidas.
2) Portlandia filming in Overlook on Thursday (Sept. 7)
A late permit came through for Portlandia to film in our neighborhood on Thursday. The filming will impact parking and traffic on Greeley Avenue between Ainsworth and Jessup streets as well as on Jesup between Greeley and Burage avenues. Click on the image for a map and more details.

3) Do you have backup water ready?
The Eagle Creek fire burning in the Columbia River Gorge has reached the Bull Run Watershed, source of Portland’s drinking water. The Bull Run Reservoir is not yet at risk, but as the fire grows, that could change.
Overlook’s Neighborhood Emergency Team (NET) encourages all residents to have an emergency supply of water on hand in case service is disrupted. If you need a container, we have a limited number of 5-gallon water “bags” available. Each collapsible bag was used once by the Portland Water Bureau to transport test samples out of Bull Run. A small amount of bleach in water will sterilize them to hold water for up to six months.
