Polish Festival! Saturday & Sunday, September 25 & 26, 3900 N Interstate Avenue
The annual Polish Festival, one of Oregon's premier ethnic events, celebrates it's 16th anniversary Sept. 25-26 on the Polish Library Hall, St. Stanislaus Church and Krakow Cafe & Pub grounds on the 3800 and 3900 block of N. Interstate Ave. Admission is free.
More than 12,000 people over two days, are expected to attend the festival runs from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, and noon to 6p.m., Sunday, with continuous stage entertainment and a Saturday night street dance. Free parking in the Kaiser Permanente lots.
The non-stage entertainment will include multi-ethnic performers from throughout the Pacific Northwest including the popular Polonez renaissance court dance company from Vancouver, B.C. This year's festival foods will include pierogis, fruit-filled pastries and, delectable kielbasa sausages, and beer garden featuring Polish lagers, porters and other beers. Chefs have ordered 15,000 pierogis for the two-day fete and imported 6,000 bottles of Polish beers and wines.

As part of the Smith and Bybee Natural Resource Management Plan update, Metro is hosting an open house at the St. Johns Landfill. Key considerations for the plan include habitat for wildlife as well as access by people. Learn more and contribute your thoughts about how the updated natural resource management plan will guide the restoration and enhancement of Smith and Bybee Wetlands for the next ten years and ensure that a thriving natural area will exist for future generations to enjoy.

The open house will include two optional 40-minute tours of the St. Johns Landfill. The first tour begins at 9:30 a.m., the second tour begins at 10:30 a.m. Space is limited, please come early to reserve a seat on the tour bus. Coffee and pastries will be served. This is a family-friendly event, children are welcome.

Solar North Portland meeting Tuesday October 5
Overlook Neighbors have started coming forward for this committee. Join them!
Solarize North Portland is being spearheaded by North Portland Neighborhood Services, in collaboration with Bureau of Planning and Sustainability and the Energy Trust of Oregon, to purchase solar panels in North Portland through community volume purchasing. Southeast, Northeast, and Southwest Portland areas have all run successful programs and were able to install solar for less dollars through community volume purchasing. North Portland Neighborhood Services plans to expand this work for North Portland residents. In addition to solar panels we will help residents find resources to make their homes more energy efficient, reducing utility costs. Beginning in January we plan to conduct an intensive outreach to enroll interested people in the program. More details are coming soon.
This is where we need your help. We are looking for interested and energetic volunteers who want to reach out to their neighbors to help them take advantage of this opportunity. We will be recruiting volunteers to help us choose one or two contractors, and spread the word. We need your help by talking to neighbors, distributing flyers, putting up posters, and possibly helping to schedule informational workshops in their area. If you know someone who might be interested, please pass on this message, or ask them to call me, or ask me to call them.
We are hosting a meeting Tuesday October 5th at 6:30pm upstairs at the Historic Kenton Fire House. Please come to learn more about volunteering for this effort.
