1) Free movie at Peninsula Park (Sept. 26)

On Friday, Sept. 26 at Peninsula Park Portland Parks & Recreation presents a special outdoor Movie in the Park screening of the youth-produced Peninsula Park documentary, “Through the Years, Through Our Eyes: A Teen View of Peninsula Park.” Admission is free.  The movie was rained out in June and rescheduled.

The evening kicks off at 5 p.m. with music, the Portland Parks & Recreation rock climbing wall, arts and crafts, a wrestling demonstration from the renowned Peninsula Wrestling Club, food carts, and more.  The movie will begin at 7 p.m. Free popcorn provided!

Friends of Peninsula Park Rose Garden, the Piedmont Neighborhood Association and Portland Parks & Recreation will co-host the event.  Jackets and blankets are recommended. If it is raining, the documentary will be shown in the West Gym of the adjacent Peninsula Park Community Center.

2) National Prescription Drug Turn in Day is Saturday (Sept. 27)

The Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s Crime Prevention Program and the Portland Police Bureau will hold a Prescription Drug Turn In event on Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Southeast Precinct located at 4735 E. Burnside Street. This event is a partnership with the DEA Nationwide Drug Turn In Day.

Portland Police Officers and Crime Prevention staff will be on site for the anonymous turn in of unused or expired prescription medications, to share information about the dangers of prescription drug abuse and to answer community and media questions regarding this issue.

3) TriMet seeks input from residents

TriMet wants your input to help plan improvements to transit service in North Portland. Please weigh in by taking a brief, 5-minute survey about transit routes, stops and frequencies at http://www.trimet.org/future/survey.

4) Comment on Portland’s draft 2035 Comprehensive Plan

The city Planning and Sustainability Commission (PSC) is holding hearings about the draft 2035 Comprehensive Plan. Before the Comp plan goes to city council for adoption, the PSC is seeking input. As the official advisory body to City Council, the PSC wants to know what people all over the city think about the proposed goals, policies and land use map.

The Comp Plan will shape land use and development in Portland for the next 20 years. See what changes are being considered for Overlook and all of the city online at http://www.portlandoregon.gov/bps/57352. The site includes an interactive map that allows you to burrow down to your street.

5) Grants available for cultural programs

The Multnomah County Cultural Coalition announces its 2015 Community Cultural Participation Grant Program deadline. This year, MCCC will award up to $60,000 to community-based cultural events, programs, organizations and neighborhood associations that foster a community that is opportunity-rich in cultural offerings, make culture more accessible and affordable to Multnomah County residents or encourage new cultural activities and organizations.

The 2015 grant cycle application is now available online at racc.org/grants/countyapps/ Deadline for applications is Oct. 13 at 5 p.m.

Any not-for-profit organization is eligible to apply for a grant of up to $2,000 to be used for a specific event, program or activity, as long as it is open to the public. This includes registered neighborhood associations, groups of citizens with a declared common purpose consistent with the goals of this grant program, and organizations with IRS 501(c)(3) status. However, IRS 501(c)(3) status is not a prerequisite.
