1) Portland Polish Festival (Sept. 20-21)
The 21st Annual Portland Polish Festival is an event for families and singles, for adults and children, for food connoisseurs, music lovers, concert goers, and dance enthusiasts … It’s for everyone.
The Festival features Polish food, vendors, imported beer, polka dancing and more.
It is being held at 3900 N Interstate Ave. between the two historic buildings of the Polish Library (incorporated in 1911) and St. Stanislaus Church (built in 1907). It runs all weekend and admission is free.
Saturday, Sept. 21: 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 22: Noon to 6 p.m.

2) Citywide Land Use Group (Sept. 22)
This month’s Citywide Land Use Group meeting will launch a series of meetings focused on how we can live with infill development. Portland is accepting more residents on the same amount of land. That creates funding pressures due to tax limitations and pressure on infrastructure like streets, parks, and sewer and water lines because they lack dedicated funding streams to maintain them.
At the meeting, the group will discuss another way development projects are designed and planned, but one that involves those directly impacted right from the beginning. We will look for accepted ways to build early Neighborhood Association involvement in development proposals so that final decisions don’t appear to have ignored many of those who will be living with the final result.

3) North Williams Avenue street design installation begins, left lane to close soon
Construction began this week on the N Williams Avenue Traffic Safety Project. N Williams serves several growing neighborhoods and is a popular commuter route between downtown and North Portland.
The new street design will extend from NE Broadway to NE Killingsworth Street and will require up to three months to complete. Early in the project, the left lane of Williams will close to all traffic. No detours will be in effect, but alternate routes are available during construction.
The alternate route for people traveling by bicycle is NE Rodney Street, a neighborhood greenway that is a designated bikeway and has been upgraded with speed bumps to discourage cut-through motor vehicle traffic. The alternate routes for drivers are NE Martin Luther King Boulevard and N Interstate Avenue.

4) Daimler Trucks North America informational session: Greenway expansion project and construction update (Sept. 23)
Daimler Trucks North America invites members of the Overlook community to attend an informational session about the company’s headquarters construction project. Space is limited, so please RSVP online at http://tinyurl.com/dtnafirehouse.
The project will include a 9-story office tower, parking garage to support the new building, and an overall enhancement of the Swan Island campus.
Construction recently began and is expected to run through the first quarter of 2016. Daimler Trucks wants the community to be aware that the project will require the installation of steel piles for a 10-week period starting in early to mid-September, the sound of which may be heard throughout the North Portland neighborhoods.

5) Ten Days Until SW Sunday Parkways! (Sept. 28)
The final Sunday Parkways of 2014 is nearly upon us. On Sept. 28, Portlanders will walk, run, bike and roll on Portland’s Southwest streets. One of the unique highlights of this route is the 4.5 mile walking route. Enjoy the beautiful Southwest Trails network, making your way through neighborhoods via stairs, paths and very quiet roads.
While making your way around the route make sure you stop off and take in all of the fun at Gabriel Park, Multnomah Village, Troy Street Marketplace and the Hillsdale Shopping Center. Check out Sunday Parkways brochure to see the list of live music and fitness classes, bike shop repair stations, activities, food and more.
