1) Notes from the June OKNA Meeting
A couple of highlights from the OKNA meeting this past Tuesday; remember, everyone is welcome to join us on the 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7pm. We meet at the Kaiser Town Hall building, 3704 N Interstate Avenue.

– Sustainable Overlook member Mulysa is floating an ambitious project: Overlook as Portland’s first pesticide-free neighborhood! To get started, we’re asking that neighbors take Metro’s healthy lawn & garden pledge. If you’d like to get one of those cool ladybug signs for your yard and join this initiative, please email sustainable@OverlookNeighborhood.org today!

– Drivers Needed for Saturday Food Box Delivery
TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2013 – The Portland Police Sunshine Division is in critical need of volunteers for this Saturday’s food box delivery.
At 9 a.m. Saturday, June 22, the Sunshine Division, Portland Police Officers and community volunteers will deliver 1,000 food boxes to Portland area families as part of the Sunshine Division’s second annual Hunger Doesn’t Vacation program. The Sunshine Division needs 200 volunteer drivers to help deliver food boxes to local homes. Drivers can take as little or as many boxes as they want.
Delivery will begin at 9 a.m. at either the Sunshine Division Warehouse, 687 N. Thompson, or North Precinct, 449 N.E. Emerson. Deliveries typically conclude by noon.
Those interested in volunteering should contact Kris Padden, volunteer coordinator with the Sunshine Division, at kris@sunshinedivision.org or (503) 823-2176.
– Historic Events for Peninsula Park’s Centennial:
This weekend there will be an Open House Full of fun activities at the Peninsula Park Community Center from 9:00 am – noon on Saturday (June 22nd) and will include a Join the Circus Workshop, and an opportunity to help make paper roses for the Centennial Celebration decorations and much more.
This Sunday June 23rd there will also be a Gardening workshop.

– Overlook Street Tree Pruning Class
June 25 7-9 pm Harbor Freight 1335 N Mason Street
Join Portland Parks & Recreation City Nature and Sustainable Overlook to learn how to prune street trees the final Overlook Neighborhood pruning class this year. This is your opportunity to learn about tree care from professional arborists and practice pruning on actual trees. This class is for anyone that wants to be able to properly prune trees and shrubs in your street or yard or anyone who want to help prune trees. Basic pruning principles such as target pruning, tree biology, and structural pruning will be taught. 3) Sunday Parkways Northeast (6/23)
Sunday Parkways comes to Northeast Portland this Sunday, June 23, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m, opening an eight-mile route of city streets to traffic-free bicycling, walking, strolling and a variety of activities and entertainment. The hugely popular Sunday Parkways events are free to the public. This Sunday’s event, the second of five this season, is expected to draw more than 20,000 people of all ages.

5) Neighbor Discounts to Annual Festival (6/27-6/30)
The North American Organic Brewers Festival always offers a $1 discount off the tasting cup to those who donate 3 cans of food, take Tri-Met, or ride their bike to the event (one discount per person). Now, they’re extending the offer to Overlook neighbors who walk to the event! If you live in the zip codes of 97227 or 97217, go to the "discount line" at the token sales booth on-site and show ID with proof of Overlook residency to receive $1 off.
Also, if any neighbors have any issues with noise from the stage this year, please call or text our stage manager, Daniel Sutherland, at 615-522-1411; he will be on-site at the event and can deal with any issues that arise.
