A benefit for our North Portland Public School – Together, we are Beach School/Juntos somos Escuela Beach
Beach School PTA invites you to support our annual school auction, our largest fundraising event of the year, being held February 22, 2014 at the Castaway from 5:30 pm to 10:00 pm.
We’d love to have you attend! This event is open to all, so bring your friends, family, neighbors and colleagues in support of local public education. Tickets are available now. $50.00 includes dinner, hosted beer and wine & commemorative glass. PLEASE NOTE: You must be 21 and over to attend.

2) Village 101 Presentation (2/23)
Sorry for the late notice on this. The Village model has been under discussion in Overlook for many years but hasn’t reached traction yet. If you want to grow old in your own home & neighborhood supported by a caring community. help ceate a Village to serve North Portland!
The national Village Movement began over a decade ago when 11 older adults living in Boston, Massachusetts joined forces to create a way for them to “age at home” and remain independent as long as possible. There are now over 125 Villages open nationwide with over 150 more in development, including 6 here in the Portland metro-area!
This kind of Village is not a real estate development or a retirement community. Village members continue to live in their own homes and can be homeowners, renters, seniors sharing housing or living with relatives. Villages are neighbor helping neighbor. They are networks of volunteer and reduced-cost professional support that foster interdependent aging in community.

3) Transportation Funding Town Halls (2/25 & 2/27)
The Portland Bureau of Transportation invites you to participate in town hall meetings on transportation funding for the city.
Mayor Charlie Hales, City Commissioner Steve Novick and Transportation Director Leah Treat will welcome the public and discuss transportation needs at these events:
Tuesday, Feb. 25, 6:30 to 8:30
Immigrant & Refuge Community Organization (IRCO), 10301 NE Glisan St .
Thursday, Feb. 27, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.
Multnomah Arts Center, 7688 SW Capitol Highway
The town hall meetings will provide an opportunity for the public to speak with transportation staff, ask questions and make comments for the mayor and commissioner to consider as they explore ways to improve transportation funding. A keypad polling exercise and written comment opportunities will provide other ways for the public to provide comments.

4) PSAC Meeting This Week (2/26)
PSAC PSAC.. coming to you this week! That’s Public Safety Action Committee for those who didn’t know, and this speaker should be very interesting. At last night’s OKNA meeting, Officer Jacquot told us about how BDS will help with a property that the police just busted for drug sales.. all of us need to work together to overcome our neighborhood safety issues.
Learn how you can help by reporting nuisance and compliance issues. What steps are involved from reporting to resolution? Please plan on attending and bring your questions!
If you have another topic on your mind, you’ll find safety leaders from other neighborhoods, the Portland Police, City Hall, the DA’s office and more, ready to brainstorm solutions to your problems. And free pizza!

5) Save the Date for Meadowscaping with FOOB (3/1)
Meadowscaping on the Bluff with FOOB
Saturday March 1st — 9 am -1 pm
at the oak meadow 3900 block of N. Overlook Terrace
Join Friends of Overlook Bluff to help restore oak habitat along the Willamette Bluff in North Portland. We are adding two more hand-managed 20′-diameter plots to the field that is home to a 200-year-old Heritage Oregon white oak tree. This project includes mulching new areas with cardboard and burlap, spreading compost, seeding native bunch grasses, planting native bare root stock, and weeding established plots. Food and drinks provided. Dress for weather and outdoor work. We have some tools and gloves, but bringing yours will be helpful too. Our ongoing efforts are part of a larger vision to conserve a corridor of natural area in North Portland that has ecological importance for the wildlife, watershed, and community.
