1) OKNA General Meeting: Overlook & Development (10/15)
Please join us for a continuation of the discussion on Overlook and its place in the Portland Comprehensive Plan. North District Planner Barry Manning will be there to help explain what is coming and how you can contribute to the neighborhood vision.
The Bureau of Planning and Sustainability has just released an update that includes some draft maps and other information. We’ll be discussing this further as a neighborhood and as a larger North community.. notice that one of the centers is around N Interstate & Killingsworth. 2) Overlook Business Speakeasy (10/16)
Its time again for another Speakeasy roundtable for Overlook business owners; another opportunity to connect with a variety of business owners in the area to promote your business and to share advice.
This Speakeasy is going to be held at The Hop and Vine at 1914 North Killingsworth Street. They have agreed to make accommodations for our growing group. We’ll start up at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, October 16.
If you are interested please reply to let me know so that we can set up the room. Also spread the word to other business owners in the neighborhood who might be interested in attending.

3) Overlook House Unveiling Party (10/18)
Friday Evening October 18th, from 5:00 till 8:00
Historic Overlook House, 3839 N.Melrose Drive
Autumn is a "Season of Change" — come help us celebrate the recent transformations at the Overlook House. The carpet has been removed and the original hardwood floors have been refinished. The walls have been repainted in period-appropriate colors and furnishings have been upgraded — The Overlook House looks great ! !
Meet your neighbors and celebrate this milestone. Help us look to future projects that will continue the trend toward a real community center. We will celebrate with Beer, Wine, Hors d’oeuvres, music, and a raffle drawing at 7:00. Babysitting (age 4 and up) will be provided. See you there ! !
This year’s Raffle is better than ever ! ! 4) Apply Press Request! Fall Harvest Night at Beach School (urgent)
Beach Elementary is looking for someone in the neighborhood who might own or know someone who would lend out their cider press for the Fall Harvest Night at Beach.
We would also be forever grateful to anyone able to donate apples from their trees (or who has a source of apples free/cheap) Apples don’t need to look perfect and can be bruised, since they will be chopped and used for cider.
Harvest Night is Thurs 10/24; please reach out if you can help us!

5) Air Quality Survey for North Portland (now)
Neighbors for Clean Air (www.facebook.com/neighborsforcleanair) is conducting a survey to help us communicate with our industrial neighbors. Please complete the survey and then share with all of your North Portland friends, family, neighbors and co-workers. In the next few months, Neighbors for Clean Air will be sitting down with Swan Island industry reps to discuss how they can reduce emissions and be better neighbors. We need your voice!

6) The Aspire Project says “Thanks!”
Thank you, North Portland Community and Overlook neighbors, for your involvement with The Aspire Project this fall. Our ballet and tap classes at the Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center are in full swing and the entire staff is thrilled to see kids dancing again. This fall’s enrollment is larger than ever before, as we continue to serve a significant portion of North Portland’s diverse economic and cultural community. All students, new or experienced, young or adult, will be performing pieces from Tchaikovsky’s “The Nutcracker” after our fall term is completed on December 8th, 3:30 at Matt Dishman Community Center. Come and be a part of our community!

7) Disaster Planning Review
Comment on the draft preparedness plan for the city.. Recommend that you make your own emergency plans, there is a lot to be done and we may not be ready. Have a read and see what has been planned and what still needs work and lend your comment.
