1) Little Children’s Halloween Party (Oct. 31)

Children aged 5 and younger can still have a spooky good time on Halloween. Join us with your little ghosts, goblins, princesses and superheroes at the Overlook House. We’ll have games, prizes, crafts, healthy snacks and disco-ball dancing!

The event is free, though donations will be gratefully accepted.

Helpers are still needed (and appreciated!) so email us (OverlookHouseEvents@gmail.com) if you can lend a hand decorating, helping during the event, bringing a snack, or cleaning up afterwards.

Friends of Overlook House is sponsoring the event for the children of Overlook Neighborhood.

3) North Portland is the most popular Sunday Parkway again

Sunday ParkwayAnother year of Sunday Parkways is in the books, and once again the North Portland route is the most popular among bike riders, walkers, skaters and everyone else. About 31,100 people came out this year. The North Portland route this year passed through the Overlook Neighborhood and several other North Portland neighborhoods.

The Portland Sunday Parkways occur in each of the city’s five quadrants each summer. About 109,000 participants turned out for the five events.

4) How dangerous is Overlook Neighborhood?

GoLocalPDX crunched the numbers to find Portland’s most dangerous neighborhoods, and Overlook Neighborhood made the list … the bottom of the list. Overlook ranked 32nd out of 35 neighborhoods in a measure of calls to police, fire incidents and dangerous intersections. To put that another way, Overlook is the third safest on the list!

5) Adidas will sell Reebok

The Wall Street Journal reports that Adidas will sell Reebok to a group of investors. Adidas has managed its Reebok arm from its campus in the Overlook Neighborhood, but the Portland Business Journal says that the deal will not have much effect locally. As of last year, Adidas employed about 850 people in Portland.
