Spring has sprung – and it’s almost Mothers’ Day! There’s no better way to celebrate than by planting Northwest native plants in your garden and yard. And there’s no better place to buy those plants than at the 2nd Annual Native Plant Sale sponsored by Friends of Overlook Bluff (FOOB) on Saturday, May 10, from 10 am to 2 pm in the 3900 block of N. Overlook Terrace. Native plants thrive in our neighborhood and provide excellent habitat for insects, birds, and other wildlife. FOOB will have wildflowers, shrubs, grasses, and ground covers – all grown by Bosky Dell Nursery – including trillium, Oregon grape, evergreen huckleberry, meadow foam, a variety of ferns, and much more. Would you like to share your garden with neighbors and help spread the word about natural gardening? Is there a yard in the neighborhood that you’ve always wanted to check out? Sustainable Overlook’s 3rd annual garden tour is seeking nominations for the June 28th event. Nominate your neighbor (or yourself!) by sending the address and contact information (if you have it) to sustainable@overlookneighborhood.org by May 10th.

4) Traffic Advisory for N Vancouver Ave (5/12-6/27)
Paving to close lanes on N. Vancouver Avenue from May 12 to June 27; minor delays expected for vehicle and bicycle travel
The lane closures will affect vehicle and bicycle travel and may be intermittent for all hours and all days. The public is advised to expect delays, travel cautiously, observe all lane closures and directions by flaggers, and use alternate routes if possible. The traffic control plan will require the bicycle lane to become a shared automobile and bicycle lane at times. On-street parking will be prohibited within the work zone to facilitate the work.
Local access to residences and businesses will be provided. The work schedule may change depending on weather.

Recent controversies over parking and transportation mode choice have highlighted the relationship between transportation infrastructure and economic development. The alignment of transportation options and zoning for real estate use will shape the future of this significant economic cluster.
Please join the City Club Member Led Forum on Transportation for a discussion with civic leaders Grant Morehead, Rob Sadowsky, and Peter Stark. Grant Morehead is the staff lead at the Portland Bureau of Transportation for the Southeast Quadrant Plan. Rob Sadowsky is the Executive Director of the Bicycle Transportation Alliance. Peter Stark is an accomplished architect and Executive Director of the Central Eastside Industrial Council’s Transportation and Parking Advisory Committee. 6) 14th annual Village Building Convergence May 23 to June 1st, 2014
Calling all Community Builders! Ready to Re-Village the city? Then come to VBC14! The Village Building Convergence is a 10-day place making and urban permaculture festival that transforms Portland, Oregon every year. Also known as the VBC, this event leaves a permanent, sustainable impact all across the city.
During the 10 days of the VBC, nearly 40 communities all cross the city will be working to build a fabulous spectrum of community gathering places. From many new street piazza’s in underserved neighborhoods, to the most ecological forms of building and construction, we will retrofit our neighborhoods so that they become stronger, more resilient places where people walk and build their talk! Then, at the end of the day these same communities will gather at a central village venue that will rock with community-scale, local & organic meals, workshops, speakers, and music!
Overlook’s VBC project is the Intersection Repair at N Concord & Overlook Blvd; come to the party! The intersection repair party is coming up on May 31 and there are lots of ways to get involved. Sustainable Overlook is looking for folks to help out in advance and on that day at the paint station, kid’s area and with set-up/clean-up. There is still space for booths for neighborhood business, artists or organizations (there is no fee) and we’re looking for two more band/musicians to play.
