COLD WEATHER SERVICE ALERT:

Due to the extreme cold, the City's leaf removal service may not be provided as scheduled. Leaf removal equipment cannot operate effectively in temperatures below 34 degrees. If service to your leaf district is disrupted because of the cold, we will re-schedule the service for another day – most likely a date after our final scheduled sweep on December 15. The City will not bill you for leaf removal service until after the service is provided. If you have questions, please call the Leafline at 503-823-1784 on Monday through Friday between 6:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or email leafremoval@portlandoregon.gov. Thank you. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

The goal of the City’s Street Leaf Removal Program is to remove leaves from City streets for traffic safety and water quality protection. The service is provided to 28 designated leaf removal districts. These neighborhoods have high concentrations of mature street t

rees, where fallen leaves can clog catch basins, cause street flooding, and create slippery road conditions that can be hazardous to the traveling public. Streets in leaf removal districts need a higher level of service than the City’s regular street cleaning operation can provide to keep streets safe. Customers in these neighborhoods benefit from leaf removal from the directly adjacent street area and the street grid that provides access to their neighborhood street. For these reasons, the City leaf removal service will collect any leaves that are in the street or piled on the street between the curbs in the designated leaf removal districts.

The fall leaf removal program begins in early November and runs through mid-December. The program provides leaf collection services to approximately 30,000 customer residences or businesses located in the designated neighborhoods, or leaf removal districts.

Read the 2010 administrative rules for the leaf removal program.
