Job Opening: Tree Inventory Assistant

Are you looking for a fun, interactive summer job that lets you spend time outdoors? Do you have experience identifying trees and using GIS applications? Then apply for the Tree Inventory Assistant (Recreation Leader) position today!
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Collect street tree inventory data, including tree identification, measurement, and assessment using paper forms &PDAs.
· Conduct street tree inventory workshops for volunteers in Portland neighborhoods. This includes public speaking, training volunteers, organizing logistics, preparing maps and datasheets in ArcGIS, and checking data for accuracy.
· Enter data into ArcGIS database, create maps, and perform basic data analysis.
· Related work as required.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
· Tree identification skills
· Working knowledge of ArcGIS, Excel, Google Docs, and other computer software
· Communication skills
· Organization skills
· Experience working with volunteers
· Ability to work independently
· Knowledge of urban forestry issues

Solarize Portland projects extend deadline to May 15, 2011
Neighbors West-Northwest and North Portland Neighborhood Services have extended their Solarize registration deadline to encourage greater public participation.
The price goes down when more neighbors join in! Neighbors West-Northwest and North Portland Neighborhood Services have already recruited over 285 homeowners in North and Northwest Portland for a bulk purchase of solar electric systems for their homes. Solarize Portland neighborhood projects are designed to simplify the process of going solar and bring cost reductions through volume purchasing. Free workshops make the process easy to understand by covering topics such as the size of system to purchase, budgeting and financing, and how to get started.
