3) Livability Team Clean Up (Sunday 8/4)
Just a quick invite to join us this Sunday, 8/4 @ 9:00am in front of DiPrima Dolci (1936 North Killingsworth St) for our monthly neighborhood clean-up/graffiti abatement project. It’s looking pretty clean out there in the North part of Overlook (Going to Killingsworth), but with the summer weather, trash is a constant problem along the major corridors (i.e. Interstate/Killingsworth/Alberta).
OLT has received a fresh batch of organic free-range, city of Portland Soy Cleaner to refill our sprayers. There are also plenty of gloves, scrubbers, etc.
New members always welcome! Please share this with other Overlookers, the more the merrier! Know an area that needs attention? 4) Last Call – Volunteer at the Providence Bridge Pedal (8/11)
Help staff the water station in St Johns during the Providence Bridge Pedal on Sunday, August 11, and you’ll earn a donation TO OKNA!
Every year, OKNA board member Alan Cranna organizes this rest stop and the money he receives (hey, a per-head $$) goes to OKNA for the newsletter, special events like movie in the park and our neighborhood clean up.

5) Do You Have a Parks Project Idea?
“Parke Diem,” is a citywide park volunteering effort taking place October 11th and 12th that we anticipate becoming the largest volunteer event in Portland parks history. The effort is being organized by the Portland Parks Foundation, in partnership with PP&R and the many of Portland ’s volunteering park friends groups. The Foundation’s goal is to provide a boost to volunteer projects citywide, raise awareness of our park system’s needs, and build public support for public funding of our park system.
As a first step, the Foundation will soon invite our park friends and affinity groups (that’s us, OKNA) to propose volunteer projects for the 2-day Parke Diem effort. Their online proposal form (available here) asks groups to contact their PP&R staff liaison to describe the project they have in mind, and to discuss what PP&R staff, equipment, or materials they would need. Our priority is to support many projects and people during Parke Diem, and to commit our support judiciously. Project proposals will be reviewed with the Foundation, we’ll contact you if we have questions, and approve projects that receive our mutual support.

9) Master RECYCLER Program Opens (8/15)

Applications for the 2013 Multnomah County course are open now through August 15, 2013 at Noon
Course structure: The popular eight-week course includes two field trips and instruction in topics such as thoughtful consumption, recycling processes, alternatives to hazardous household products, composting and deconstruction and green building. The course is a blend of presentations by professionals in the field, peer group discussion and project development.
Participant responsibilities: Participants agree to attend all classes and field trips. After completing the course, graduates put their skills to work to help others learn the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. It’s what makes the Master Recycler Program so special: participants agree to volunteer 30 hours of public outreach. Master Recyclers staff information booths at community events, provide presentations, and work on personal projects. They also work to inspire their own neighbors and coworkers.
