Do you smell paint fumes in North Portland?
Are you worried about the big orange plume that came out of Precision Cast Parts last Spring?
If you are looking to get more involved in the effort to reduce toxic industrial emissions in Portland, there are many neighborhood based groups popping up.
North Portland residents put up signs last week along N. Willamette Blvd
Please contact me if you are interested in hearing more about this North Portland group:
1. North Portland Air Quality Group – residents have begun meeting monthly to address paint fumes and gas smells coming from Swan Island businesses, primarily Western Star who paints Daimler trucks.
NCA STRONGLY BELIEVES THAT:
1) As citizens, we all have a right to know what is in the air we breathe;
2) Short term and long term exposure to air toxics* are harmful to our health, with our children at greatest risk; and
3) An engaged and well-informed public working closely with community organizations, government agencies, and businesses is our most powerful tool in bringing about fundamental change in our laws and enforcement programs to reduce air toxics. The result will be safer air and a higher quality of life.
* Air toxics are defined as hazardous air pollutants known or suspected to cause cancer or other serious health effects.
