2) 4th Annual Overlook Yard Sale / Free Share (7/19-20)
Yard Sale: Saturday July 19 / Free Share: Sunday July 20
Come on out to sell, share or buy! Over 50 households are signed up to participate this year. On Saturday, households will lay out and sell their goods. On Sunday, any items left remaining that must go will be set out on the curb to be shared for free with neighbors. Printed maps showing all of the participating households in Overlook will be available at the Friends of Overlook Bluff Fundraising Yard Sale on Saturday at 3969 N Overlook Terrace. Deal-hunters can also view the online version of the map at www.sustainableoverlook.org starting now. Hope to see you there!
It’s not too late to participate! If you want to get in on the fun, just set some things out on Saturday morning.. there will be lots of traffic in the neighborhood; you don’t need to be on the map to sell!

4) Local Education Listener/Liaison?
A North Portland neighbor thinks our neighborhood associations have a role to play in education. He proposes to bring together an informal group representing the North Portland neighborhoods that can devote a modest amount of time to discussing their concerns and what a focused effort might productively do.
You may have already heard or read about the controversy surrounding the new tests that come along with the Common Core State Standards. Or the latest shuffling of administrators. Or about possible changes in the transfer policy or cluster boundaries. What about the school board elections next year? Or the next bond issue in 2016 asking for yet more money?
David Crandall (Piedmont NA) asks to identify one or more folks in Overlook who believe that our kids and grandkids deserve the best education that’s available. These people should be available for an initial meeting some time in the next few weeks. 8) ADA – What Does It Stand For? (7/26)
ADA: What Does It Stand For? is the theme for the 24th anniversary celebration of the Americans with Disabilities Act at the Matt Dishman Community Center on Saturday, July 26, from 2 to 5 p.m. The free event is open to the public and being presented by the City of Portland and several community partners.
A full afternoon of activities for all the family is planned at the center, located at 77 NE Knott St. The event will include live entertainment, an open mic session, interactive activities, multi-ethnic snacks, speakers, including Portland City Commissioner Amanda Fritz, and a birthday cake for the ADA’s big 24th anniversary. Also, Kristi Jamison, a member of the Portland Commission will be an emcee and ASL interpretation will be provided.

Beware of callers asking to collect on your bill and watch out for fraudulent bills in emails
We want to alert you about two scams targeting customers of PGE and utilities nationwide, that we’re working with local authorities to investigate. The first is a telephone scam in which thieves posing as PGE employees ask for a pre-paid credit card to collect a past-due bill or payment for services like switching a meter. The second is an email scam, in which customers are sent an email with fraudulent account information and asked to click on a hyperlink to confirm or view information. That link can download viruses to your computer.

11) OKNA Meeting Recap
Thanks to everyone who came out last night for a fast paced, informative meeting!
We had a presentation/introduction to our NETs-Neighborhood Emergency Team members. They reminded us that there’s not going to be any government services when the Big One comes; we need to be nimble and resilient ourselves.
Leader Alice Busch said they’ve learned important things in the past few years.. where they used to tell us all to ‘make a kit!’, the most important survival tool seems to be strong connections with your neighbors and friends. So today’s advice should be "Make friends!"
If you’d like to organize a Know Your Neighborhood meeting, a simple gathering of the people who live on your block to outline a basic plan, a skills & equipment inventory or even just a contact tree, get in touch with OKNA and we’ll connect you (info@OverlookNeighborhood.org). And store some water.
Our patrol officer from PPB stopped by; his only update is that they are doing the best they can at the Skidmore Bluffs but the situation is severe. Fire danger is extreme right now. Concerned neighbors should continue to call in illegal drinking, parking, traffic issues, IE any and everything that is bothering them.
