1) Neighborhood Cleanup in North Overlook (Sunday, Sept. 27)

north_cleanup2Join your neighbors for the third cleanup around N Killingsworth Street on Sunday. Volunteers will meet at 8:30 a.m. in front of Blend Coffee. Dress down; you may get a bit dirty.  Extra gloves and supplies will be available.

This will be the last cleanup organized by Cynthia Sulaski! Take a moment to thank her for all of her hard work making Overlook a better place to live. We’ll need someone to take over the organizing. The work is minimal, but the rewards are great. If you are willing or would like to learn more, email Cynthia at graffiti@overlookneighborhood.org.

2) Homeless camp in Overlook Neighborhood

The Oregon Department of Transportation says it will clear out the homeless camp near the intersection of N Greeley and N Interstate avenues. KGW and The Oregonian both have stories. The latter quotes Overlook Neighborhood Association Chair Dannielle Herman:

The Overlook Neighborhood Association, meanwhile, is aware of the camp. President Dannielle Herman said neighbors expressed concern that it had grown much larger, and that trash and fire risk could become problems. Herman said the neighborhood association wasn’t aware of the nonprofit’s plan but would be willing to learn more. “There’s always a concern about the safety for the people who are there,” she said.

KOIN news also had a story:

3) I-5 closed tonight between Marquam and Fremont bridges (Friday, Sept. 25)

I-5 will be closed in both directions between the Marquam Bridge and Fremont Bridge Friday night, September 25 for the I-5 Sign Replacement and Paving Project. The first lane closures will begin at 8 p.m. and several on-ramps to the freeway will begin closing at 9 p.m. All lanes on I-5 will close at 10 p.m. Closures will re-open by 7 a.m. Saturday, September 26.

Traffic will be detoured to I-405 in both directions. Westbound traffic from I-84 will be closed to I-5 SB, but will remain open for I-5 NB.

The following northbound and southbound on-ramps will be closed at 9 p.m.

  • Southbound I-405 to northbound I-5
  • SW Macadam to northbound I-5
  • SW Broadway to southbound I-405
  • SW 5th Avenue to southbound I-405
  • SW Montgomery to southbound I-405
  • N Greeley Avenue to southbound I-5
  • NE Wheeler Avenue to southbound I-5

The I-5 Sign Replacement Project is replacing more than 300 green freeway signs from Southwest Corbett Avenue to North Lombard Street. Many of the signs have lost their reflective properties over the years and will be upgraded to meet federal standards with more reflective materials.
