1) Public Safety Alert
Neighbors from a few parts of the neighborhood wrote in this week with reports of backyard creepers, attempted entry through back doors and lower level windows and other property nonsense. Please stay alert, lock your windows and doors (yes, it’s hot this weekend, but still..) and call the police (911) if there is someone on your property.

2) No Parking Apartment Buildings Discussion
A committee of your neighbors has been working on a response to this issue, particularly with regards to a 65-unit apartment building proposed for Overlook Boulevard. They will join with people from 4 other neighborhoods to present testimony to City Council this week; please join them in support:

"Many residents are concerned about multifamily developments with dozens of units being permitted without any resident parking. At my request, the Planning and Sustainability Commission will take public comment on this issue at their meeting which starts at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13thon the 2nd floor of the SW 1900 building on 4th Avenue downtown. 3) Livability Team Clean Up, Join Up (9/9)
This Sunday at 9am the Overlook Livability Team will be meeting at DiPrima Dolci Italian Bakery & Café (1936 N Killingsworth). From there they will head out into the neighborhood to clean up garbage and remove graffiti. Come join these great volunteers and help keep our neighborhood clean. We have supplies, but can always use more hands and friendly faces.
Newcomers welcome with no RSVP, just show up in your grubby clothes.

4) Optimists Chicken Dinner (9/9)
On Sunday September 9th, from 11am to 5pm, the Peninsula Optimists will run a BBQ Chicken Meal. The cost is $7 per person. The event will be held at the Optimist Tree Lot on N. Chautauqua & Lombard. Proceeds go to benefit the community and students of North Portland. Bring your friends and family!

7) Tree Steward Training (register NOW)
Take the lead, become an advocate for trees & your Neighborhood’s Tree Steward.
As a Neighborhood Tree Steward you are an advocate for a healthy urban forest and a tree information resource for your community. Since 1997, Portland Neighborhood Tree Stewards have been helping to grow, maintain, and garner support for the urban forest. The program includes seven classes totaling 26 hours of training. Each class is taught by a variety of tree experts using hands-on and active-learning formats.

8) Youth Career Training (soon)
Open Meadow Career Services program starts soon. Applications are now being accepted. The training series prepares youth to succeed in the workforce, college, and life after high school. Information sessions every Tuesday at 2 pm Interested youth need to call to reserve a spot. Program Start Dates: Oct. 1 Nov. 1 Dec. 1
Training is 4 weeks long and is followed bt access to paid work experience, internships, job search assistance, and college preparation. Eligibility: Ready to commit to academic and personal success, 16-21 years old & a resident of Multnomah County, Meet Federal low income requirements, experience an economic characteristic deemed as a barrier to success.
