1) DIY Home Energy Projects at the February OKNA Meeting! (2/19)

Tuesday, February 19, 7-9pm,  Kaiser Town Hall

You’ve changed your light bulbs, insulated your attic, maybe even installed solar panels.  What’s next?  What else can you do to make your home more energy efficient, without breaking the bank?

Portland energy efficiency pioneer John Sorenson will give a presentation on DIY Home Energy projects, including a furnace, a whole-house ventilator, thermal solar panels and refrigerator super-insulation – all that you can build (and repair!) yourself at much lower cost!

2) Beach School Auction Coming – Donations Needed (3/20)
You don't have to attend Beach School to go to the auction or to donate something to the auction. It is always fun with lots of awesome items to bid on. If you know someone who can donate a service, vacation home, or an item to the auction please let us know. Everything helps Beach students and with all the budget cuts coming we are going to need to raise even more. Think outside the box..Can you bake? How about a cake a month, cookies a month, pie a month what ever people will bid on it then all you have to do is bake once a month. Where do you work can they offer a donation? Lets make this year AWESOME!!
Tickets on sale in the office of Beach School and also at beachpta.org. Donations can be taken to the Beach School office or you can contact Kurt Dahlke at orangeandorange@msn.com

3) Overlook Sewer Repair Update

Hello Overlook Community,

The Overlook Sewer Replacement Project is estimated to begin in March of 2013.  The project area is from the I – 5 Freeway on the east, to the Overlook Bluff on the west, and from Ainsworth Street on the north, to Overlook Park on the south.  The entire project will take one year to complete.

The Sunday Oregonian on 1/27/13 had an article that may be of interest to you in understanding how the sewer project in the Overlook neighborhood is part of the larger effort to maintain sewage infrastructure in Portland :

4) Property Tax Levy Coming in May

Levy referred to voters

The Metro Council voted unanimously Dec. 18 to refer to voters a 5-year local option levy of 9.6 cents per $1,000 of home value. The levy will restore natural areas, protect water quality and provide people with more opportunities to enjoy nature. It will cost the typical homeowner about $20 per year for five years.
