We will be presenting and discussing our presentation to Portland City Council slated for Wednesday, Sept 12, 9:30 am at City Hall, 1221 SW 4th Ave., 2nd Floor, in Council Chambers and will discuss various outreach programs that we will plan to deploy in the short term. 6) Grant Funds will Expire in September
THE PORTLAND BROWNFIELD PROGRAM has grant funding available until September for North and Northeast Portland property owners. These funds can be used for FREE or LOW-COST Environmental Site Assessments on brownfields or properties where previous use may have contaminated the soil or ground water with petroleum or other hazardous substances.
BROWNFIELDS can be old gas stations or auto repair shops, dry cleaners or manufacturing facilities, parking lots or vacant lots with unknown histories. As a property owner or prospective purchaser, it is important to know if there is contamination on your site, and to protect yourself from liability and unexpected delay during development.
THE PORTLAND BROWNFIELD PROGRAM is not a regulatory agency and does not issue fines. We are here to help Portland property owners return vacant and underused sites into active community assets like small businesses, offices, affordable and mixed-use housing, community gardens and much more. All of our services are free of charge.

7) Police Bureau Training Advisory Council (8/31)
Dear Portlander,
We need your help. The Portland Police Bureau has created a new group to provide input into their training programs – the Training Advisory Council. In coordination with moving the Police Bureau’s Training Division into the recently acquired Bureau Training Facility, we are seeking citizens to serve on this new advisory group.
The Police Bureau Training Division is a crucial piece of our public safety strategy for the City of Portland. Our Training Division protocols and process both outfit officers with the tools they need to keep our city safe and healthy, and also reflect the values of our community. We are one of the first jurisdictions in the country to establish a Training Advisory Council of citizens to increase accountability for police training and to provide recommendations to the Chief of Police regarding training content, delivery, tactics policy, and tools.
To apply for inclusion in the Training Advisory Council, complete the application form here and return to the PPB Training Division by Friday, August 31. Council members will meet a minimum of four times each year and will be expected to commit additional hours outside of regular meetings. Making a two-year commitment is required, as is passing a criminal background check and signing a non-disclosure agreement.
Creating a healthy, equitable, prosperous and educated city requires all of our participation. The commitment required by the Training Advisory Council is steep-but I hope you will consider joining the Portland Police Bureau and myself as we find ways to support our law enforcement community and the values of our great city.
